You have just announced the release of your new single Can’t Keep A Good Girl Down, can you tell me what the single is about?
The single is an anthem similar to Part of Me Katy Perry, which is about empowerment and standing up for yourself.
Why was it decided to record the single in Los Angeles?
We recorded the vocals in LA but co wrote the song back in the UK swapping files back and forth and demoing the vocals in our studio in the UK. We recorded the final vocal in LA as it also coincided with a promo tour.
You worked with two very well-known producers, Jimmy Waldo from Alcatrazz, and Michael C Ross, who has worked with international artists such as Christina Aguilera and the Pussycat Dolls, how did that come about?
Michael Ross has been a close contact of AM for a few years from when the director worked with him at a major studio in LA a few years back so he was the natural first choice to collaborate with Courtney.
Did you enjoy the whole process of the production of the single?
It was a fun experience and rewarding when it all came together. It was my debut single so very exciting and met a lot of awesome people and learnt a lot from working with them.
Did Michael C Ross give you any advice from his years of working with some of the best-known artists in recent times?
They were always supportive and encouraging during the recording process. He also just knew how to get the best vocal takes and very professional.
You will be performing the new single on a tour around schools, can you tell me what schools will be included in the tour?
We are doing a local school tour in Dorset, pushing out the single to media and also have a couple of licensing opportunities or sync placements possibly lined up in the US.
A lot of new artists come through reality television such as the X-Factor, have you ever been tempted to audition for the show?
Never not my scene. I’ve think it’s over done, I want to try and make it without the help of a reality show.
A lot of artists have said the X-Factor is bad for the music industry, what is your opinion?
The people that have chosen to go on the show are talented but I don’t feel it’s the right route for me.
Who has influenced your music tastes?
My family but also icons such as Janis Joplin, Aretha Franklin. Dolly Parton.
Are there plans for an album?
I’m currently working on my EP and testing out new styles so collaborating with songwriters in Nashville at the moment for my EP.
To celebrate the new single, there will be a launch party on Saturday 30th January 2016, which will include a live performance from Courtney and support guest act sign Chris Payn.
