EAST STROUDSBURG, PA–When Michigan state officials, seeking to save money, redirected the city of Flint’s water source from Lake Huron to the heavily polluted Flint River, an unprecedented crisis unfolded, with people unable to use the highly contaminated water for drinking, cooking, or bathing. All of Flint’s 9,000 children aged 6 or under were exposed to dangerous lead poisoning, which will have severe and lasting effects on their health, and every resident of the city has received disturbing levels of toxic chemicals from the brackish, discolored water now issuing from their faucets. Although President Obama has ordered Federal intervention to address this emergency, there is still an immediate and pressing need for a safe, clean water supply for the people of Flint, who are primarily people of color.
Now, among the snow-capped Pocono Mountains, a major community event is taking shape, as a grand benefit show to aid the suffering citizens of Flint, with a large-scale Water Drive to replenish that community’s vital resources. Hosted by Tammy Peay, an accomplished, critically-acclaimed comedienne whose credits include a live performance at New York City’s iconic Carnegie Hall, and appearances on TV, in film, and comedy stages across America, Ms. Peay will be joined by the crowd-pleasing, gifted teen “triple threat” artist Xavier, whose whirlwind “Bossed Up” tour last summer took the country by storm. Xavier, Bossed Up Management vocalist, instrumentalist, and rapper, whose latest single, “Greatest’, skyrocketed to the top of the charts and was recently added to Pandora, will add his electrifying talent to this critical, lifesaving effort. Both artists are deeply committed to making this Water Drive a big success, and Ms. Peay, who co-hosts a popular weekly radio broadcast, Talk ‘N Tea with Tammy & Nathan, underscored its importance, saying, “Water is life. The people of Flint deserve a clean, potable water source. I can’t believe something like this is actually happening in America”.
Jock N’ Jill’s Sports Bar’s Legendary disc jockey DJRatedR will provide toe-tapping music for this event, which takes place at the Pocono Cinema and Cultural Center, 88 South Courtland Street, in East Stroudsburg, PA, on Saturday, March 19, from noon to 2 PM. The show, organized by Bossed Up Management mogul Stephanie Smagler with the support of Global Marketing & Entertainment, will be free entry with a Case of Water. Helping Hands And Beyond will provide refreshments for the attendees. The evening will also feature dazzling dance, music performances and public information about the growing crisis in Flint. A few of the New York City Corrections Department (NYCDOC) employees, as well as One Voice One Mind & We Care For Our Communities, has generously agreed to provide water and facilitate the transportation of all supplies donated to this effort, directly to the city of Flint, Michigan.
