2013 WCFEST festival was rated #1 thing to do by CBC. 2014 WCFEST broke attendance records. This years festival is set to be the best with more top line acts.
The third annual Windsor Comedy Festival will take place from 7:30 to 11 p.m. at the Chrysler Theatre in Windsor on Dec. 27, and feature some of the very best up and coming comics from Canada and the United States.
Hosted by Arms Bumanlag of AM800 and CTV, the festival will feature the comedy stylings of headliner Ron Josol, along with Rebecca Kohler, Maija Digiogio and Troy Walker. As the only festival of its kind in the region, the show offers a chance to relax and enjoy the break before the start of the New Year.
Last year’s festival blew through the first year’s attendance records, thanks in part to being named the #1 thing to do in Windsor between Christmas and New Year’s by the CBC. Having Ian Bagg, who went on to be a finalist on NBC’s Last Comic Standing helped that, as well.
Headliner Ron Josol, from Toronto, has performed around the world and is likely the most recognizable Asian comedian in Canada. He has been profiled on the Comedy Network, ABS–CBN in Asia, Showtime Dubai, CBC, Discovery Channel, Echo TV, OMNI 1&2, MTV Canada, and recently, the Biography Channel Canada. He has written and performed on the Much Music hit shows “Video on Trial” and “MuchMoreMusic.” In January 2009, he filmed his first U.S. national spot at the LOL Comedy Festival on Showtime USA.
Rebecca Kohler, from Ottawa, turns life’s difficulties into well-crafted stories and jokes that highlight the absurdities of existence. She’s appeared at numerous festivals, including Just For Laughs, the Newfoundland Screech Comedy Festival and CTV’s Comedy Now, and has been a writer for “The Ron James Show,” “Scaredy Squirrel” and “This Hour Has 22 Minutes.”
Maija DiGiorgio, from New York City, is one of the two U.S. comedians scheduled to appear. She’s been called one of “the freshest, funniest, unique voices to grace the microphone” by Time Out New York. She has performed on the HBO Comedy Jam, NBC’s “Comics Unleashed,” “Comic View” and “The HOT 97 Morning Show with Ed & Maija” on the city’s No. 1 radio station.
Troy Walker, from Denver, has twice won the Comedy Works “New Faces” contest, and is a regular at that club. He has performed at festivals including the Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival, the Great American Comedy Festival, and The Telluride Comedy Festival and was recently one of Just for Laughs Montreal’s New Faces of Comedy.
