Residents near Atwater Village and Glendale, CA woke up with white smoke above their homes. The smoke was claimed to come from a hazardous leak inside an industrial business, which is a chemical manufacturer.
The industrial business is an American multinational manufacturer and marketer of chemical products for consumers and industrial customers. Huntsman Corporation manufactures assorted polyurethanes, performance products, and adhesives for customers like BMW, GE, Chevron, Procter & Gamble, Unilever and Walkaroo.
“There was an incident reportedly during the transport of a product, which resulted in a leak,” the Los Angeles Fire Department said in a statement. Details about the product were not specified.
There is a possibility that the leakage may contain chemicals such as polyurethane and titanium dioxide which are chemicals that the business is known for distributing.
Polyurethane is considered an unsafe chemical and can irritate people with respiratory problems if inhaled and Titanium Dioxide is a possible cancer causing chemical. Symptoms of polyurethane may include headaches, nausea, vomiting, irritation in eyes or skin, or lightheadedness.
