Retired journalist David Siddall has published the alternative history thriller, Das Volk USA, in paperback and for Kindle devices. Alternative history stories have become major television series in recent years with the releases of The Man in the High Castle and The Handmaid’s Tale. Siddall’s Das Volk USA is another alternative history story that will appeal to readers seeking a great tale using facts the former journalist uncovered in the writing of the fiction book.
It may come as a surprise to many Americans, but Nazi Germany planned to invade and conquer the United States during World War II. The Nazi Party designed a plan to take control of the U.S. and install its best and brightest individuals as governors. Das Volk USA details the Nazi Party’s plans to take over the U.S. and the country’s eventual acceptance of the invasion in a short fictional story.
Siddall learned of the Nazi Party’s plan to govern the U.S. through a chance encounter at his local rotary club. It led him to further research to learn more about the plot to invade the country. Using the information he uncovered, Siddall was prompted to write Das Volk USA. According to Siddall, the fictional story based on the information he discovered, appears unlikely to today’s generation, but the information the book is based on is fact.
“I found it fascinating that Hitler dared to contemplate eventual takeover of the United States and was grooming potential governors,” Siddall said. “I thought others might also find it weirdly interesting. It might be even more interesting to the many German immigrants, ‘Volk’, and their descendants who live in certain U.S. states.”
Siddall believes the story of Das Volk USA to be incredibly unique and for many readers, unbelievable. He hopes that it could inspire a film one day. David Siddall worked for Cumberland Newspapers for 30 years and was the News Editor for the Whitehaven News.
