Actress Nicole Serrano hopes to inspire others by her craft

Nicole Serrano hopes her work in some upcoming independent films will help people find some escape and relief they need. The Spanish-speaking actress is a recent addition to the Hollywood scene.

“People suffering from stress or from loneliness, they are all invited to tune into my art where they can find a piece of myself and therefore feel cared for and less lonely,” she said. “Sometimes people need an escape from the real world, even for a short time. Joining me in a fictional world where where the real life problems do not matter anymore can give them that escape.”

The notion of being an actress and helping people live a different life through her is one she has carried from childhood. While some might see that as an impossible goal, Serrano bent her will to achieving that goal.

She knew it was going to be difficult, especially since it meant moving to Hollywood despite not speaking English.

“I did not know the language. I did not know anybody. I did not have a job or a school waiting for me in this country or anyone showing me how the system worked. At first I did not know how to find it and only had money to pay rent for the first month. I went through a lot of struggles and I did not give up and continued fighting until I was able to save money to move to LA and was finally able to start pursuing acting,” she said.

She also feels these struggles have improved her acting. By reaching into that not-long-ago past, she is able to bring the determination to life in her role in a movie.

“Through acting we can teach others that even when life lessons show us that we have to be tough to protect our feelings from being hurt, if we dig into our sensitive side when we can not only connect the best with our true selves, but also with others,” she said. “I would not trade what I went through for anything. It made me who I am today.”

Ms. Serrano continues to take acting classes to improve her art. A naturally athletic person, she enjoys surfing, rollerblading and yoga. These too have taught her skills she brings to each role.

“Acting is so much more than just saying lines. True actors bring everything they are into the role. They make a connection with the viewer,” she said. “Through acting and through arts, we are able to re-teach people how to feel and how to connect with their own emotions, so that they can be vulnerable enough to connect with others emotions.”
