Waiting for the first snow to fall served as the inspiration behind musician and songwriter Anjalts’ ethereal new ballad, December Snow, released on Friday, December 13. This marks the second single from her upcoming third album, currently in production. With December Snow, Anjalts shifts to a stripped-down acoustic arrangement, blending delicate guitars and subtle synths to evoke the stillness of winter.
The minimalist production underscores the emotional core of the song, drawing listeners into its reflective narrative of a snow-covered world and a mistletoe memory of an unexpected first kiss—leaving much to the imagination for the holiday season.
Following last month’s release of Wrong Side of the Road, the opening track from her upcoming album, Anjalts shared insights into her creative process for December Snow. “The track began with live recordings of guitars and vocals, layered gradually with synths to maintain an organic and heartfelt feel. It was freezing inthe studio that week,” she revealed. “Thinking about that December Snow memory while recording made it feel a little warmer.”
The soundscape of the track brilliantly captures the anticipation of the first snowfall, with Anjalts’ evocative vocals gliding over the acoustics to deliver a tender melody about fleeting moments between two young lovers. In just 2 minutes and 45 seconds, December Snow delineates a complete narrative, balancing emotional highs and lows with precision.
Since 2023, Anjalts has released two full-length albums, showcasing her versatility and prolific songwriting. Her self-produced debut album, Air to Fire, arrived in February 2023, followed by her sophomore rock album, Bluency, in September 2024.
