Planting People Growing Justice (PPGJ), a pioneering social enterprise, is proud to announce that its founder, Dr. Artika R. Tyner, has been honored with the 2024 Black Women Give Back Award. This prestigious accolade is granted annually to ten exceptional philanthropists and funders who significantly impact Black women and girls worldwide through their donations and investments.
The Black Women Give Back Award (BWGB), established by Dr. Jacqueline “Bouvier” Copeland, celebrates visionaries whose work has created meaningful opportunities and empowerment for Black women globally. Dr. Tyner expressed her profound gratitude for this honor: “I am deeply honored to be recognized as one of the recipients of the 2024 Black Women Give Back Award. This recognition inspires me to continue this vital work with even more passion and purpose.”
Dr. Tyner’s groundbreaking work through PPGJ embodies the spirit of BWGB. Founded as a first-of-its-kind social enterprise that merges a publishing house, bookstore, and literacy organization, PPGJ is dedicated to promoting literacy and leadership development among Black girls and women. This unique model has significantly contributed to advancing educational and economic empowerment within the Black community.
In addition to her work with PPGJ, Dr. Tyner’s philanthropic efforts have made considerable national and global impacts. She actively sponsors education and healthcare initiatives that create access to education for Black girls and promote the health and well-being of Black girls and women. Her dedication to fostering leadership and development is reflected in the lives of countless individuals who benefit from these initiatives.
