Father’s Day Reading Challenge by ‘Reading Pays More’ Celebrates Literacy, Fatherhood, and Social Activism

Fort Lauderdale, FL – It’s an American tradition. Each year in the United States, we celebrate Father’s Day as a day when fathers and fatherhood is honored. We often share gifts to dads, granddads, and father figures to show our appreciation and spend time with them to highlight their love and caregiving nature as providers and protectors. Annually, the non-profit “Reading Pays More,” looks to acknowledge the contributions of fathers in the context of literacy and social activism.

The late George Floyd was a father of 5. He tragically lost his life when a police officer named Derek Chauvin knelt on his neck for several minutes while he gasped for breath. Like so many African American fathers who have senselessly lost their lives to violence and unfortunate circumstances, Father’s day for their loved ones is a reminder of their absence.

“We often mark and honor solemn events with a moment of silence. Once again on Father’s Day, June 21, 2021, our organization is committed to honoring the minutes in which Mr. George Floyd tragically lost his life, through a positive call to action. We are asking fathers and father figures across the globe to share the experience of reading with a young person for several minutes to encourage the love of reading,” said Georgia Robinson, Founder of “Reading Pays More.”

RPM as its mission highlights the importance of parents reading with their children via various literary events and an ongoing social media campaign called Love Reading with Dad. The group encourages dads, granddads and uncles of all ages to share a picture of themselves reading a book with a child using the hashtag #lovereadingwithdad.

“We want to spread the word that reading together is not only fundamental, but it also helps create a strong parental bond,” said Robinson. And it is especially important for parents to read with their young boys,” she added.

Robinson is asking that fathers and father figures record a video or take a picture reading with a child/children before or on Father’s Day and post it on social media using the hashtags #lovereadingwithdad and #readforfloyd. Images can also be posted on the Reading Pay More Facebook or Instagram Page.
