Hardwood Flooring and Engineered Flooring Difference Explained By The Hardwood Design Centre

The Hardwood Design Centre provides details between the difference of hardwood flooring and engineered flooring. They have put this guide together to help people understand the difference to make the right choice before purchase.

When it comes to sprucing the home and putting down new flooring, many people are confused between Hardwood Flooring and Engineering Flooring and which they should choose for their home. To help people understand the difference, Hardwood Design Centre, a leading flooring company has launched an awareness campaign.

Even though hardwood flooring and engineered flooring are completely different, once they have been professional installed it would be hard to tell the difference. Both types of flooring are made from real hardwood, but they have been made in different ways. The main difference is in the construction of the planks and how, when, and where they can be used within the home.

Engineered hardwood flooring is made up of multiple layers of wood. The top layer of the flooring is called the wear layer, this is where you see the style of wood that you have chosen. For example, walnut or oak where the flooring is normally 2.5mm – 6mm in thickness. The flooring that you do not see is made up of base layers which are normally made from plywood, Hevea or Eucalyptus. These base layers give the flooring more strength and stability. With engineered hardwood flooring the consumer may have 18mm of flooring but, only 4mm of that flooring is real hardwood.

One reason why Engineers hardwood flooring is popular is down to the way it is fitted. Engineered hardwood flooring can have a click fitting system which many flooring fitters like or it can have a tongue and groove profile. Different finishes are also available. One mistake that people often make is thinking that engineered hardwood flooring is the same as laminate flooring, this is not correct. Engineered flooring unlike laminate flooring has a top layer of real hardwood.

Hardwood flooring is one of the most popular types of flooring for its wonderful finish and the length of time it lasts before the floor must be replaced.
