Washington, D.C. – February 12, 2021 – Jack and Jill of America Foundation and Jack and Jill of America, Inc.are calling on anyone wanting more information on COVID strategies, safeguards and solutions to join a discussion on the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and its effect on black communities.

“Black Families: Where are we now with COVID?” will be held on Wednesday, February 17, 2021, beginning at 8:00 PM EST. Anthony Trotman, Deputy County Manager Health & Human Services Mecklenburg County, Charlotte, N.C., Erika Gentry, MD, MBA Medical Director Manager for Optum Enterprise Clinical Services, and Darlene Whittington, Hematology Therapeutic Manager for Genentech will serve as moderators, leading a panel of experts through a discussion centered on economic stability, education, and the newly-introduced COVID-19 vaccines. Our board members, Dr. Emmanuel Hostin and Marvis Donalson will share their personal stories on how COVID has affected their lives.
“Our goal with this town hall meeting is simple- we desire to shed light on the key issues that systemically and disproportionally affect black and brown families across the nation, as it relates to COVID-19,” said Dr. Icilma “Icy” Fergus Rowe, President of the Jack and Jill of America Foundation. “We’ve curated some of the nation’s leading experts in healthcare, education, and politics to speak directly to our stakeholders on ways to protect themselves, their children, and their assets as we continue to learn more about how COVID-19 impacts our community. This town hall meeting is essential because it will empower our audience through education and awareness.”

We vow to do our part in making sure our members and communities remain informed — from the variance of COVID that has now entered our nation to the importance of getting vaccinated. It is our goal to arm our members and our communities with the information needed to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. Attendees will be provided with resources to help expand their education and awareness of key issues that impact minority-centered communities who have been disproportionally infected by the virus.
