L.I.F.E To Hold Education Summit Addressing The Issues Of Current Education Trends And Challenges

On May 24, 2024, L.I.F.E will host a pivotal Education Summit, addressing the pressing issues of current education trends and challenges. This platform is crucial in our efforts to promote excellent learning and care systems for children and their families within St. Maarten and the wider region. The forum will catalyze idea sharing among top educators and all other stakeholders, fostering a collaborative approach to various aspects of learning and development.

L.I.F.E., Learning Is For Everyone Foundation, is dedicated to promoting mental health awareness, educational opportunities, and advancements to children, parents, families, and people living in the Caribbean

The Education Summit will feature diverse topics, including learning objectives, assessments, critical thinking skills, speech and language development, occupational therapy, and the arts as educational tools.

Our esteemed panelists, leading experts in their respective fields, will share their insights on these topics, including art education, occupational therapy, language, speech development, and current academic trends.

Since 2017, and now, after the recent worldwide pandemic, the Caribbean Nation, St. Maarten included, has seen an increase in Speech and Language Difficulties, disabilities, and challenges in learning.

Our guests include our online presenter, Mr. Samuel Everdium, a physiotherapist with 20 years of experience trained in Cuevas Medek Exercise (CME) Level 2. 

Samuel specializes in psychomotor therapy approaches for persons with developmental delays, syndromes, and conditions affecting the central nervous system and is currently working with an NGO, Caribbean Kids, and Families Therapy Organization in Trinidad, providing CME therapy to some of the most vulnerable populations of persons with disabilities.

Visiting Guests:

Keisha Lindsay Nurse, Ph.D, CCC-SLP, is a speech-language pathologist and public health researcher who has practiced across the English-speaking Caribbean region.  Dr. Lindsay Nurse also works with governmental and non-governmental organizations to build capacity for regional therapeutic services.  She lectures widely on topics related to culturally and linguistically responsive and global practices in allied health and mentors scores of students and early career professionals in speech-language pathology. Originally from Trinidad, Dr. Lindsay Nurse currently resides in Atlanta, Georgia.

Nicole Chantal de Weever.

St. Maarten was born, and Ms. de Weever is the founder/coordinator/president of the Art Saves Lives Foundation.

St. Maarten’s, Ms. de Weever is the Founder/Coordinator/President of the Art Saves Lives Foundation.

Nicole de Weever is a dancer and choreographer from Sint Maarten. She has performed in film and television and appeared on Broadway in the musical Fela! During its initial run in 2009 and reprised in 2012 after a world tour. In 2009, the government of Sint Maarten honored her as a cultural ambassador.

Chrelle Moses-Belmar.  Ms. Moses-Belmar is a Senior Special Education Consultant from Trinidad and Tobago. She trains educators and works with the University of Trinidad and Tobago and the University of the West Indies, St. Augustine Campus.

Ms. Chrelle Moses-Belmar is an accomplished, high-capacity servant leader passionate about special and inclusive education. She has a keen interest in special education policy in the Caribbean and transformative, inclusive education approaches.

With over 13 years of experience in special and inclusive education, Ms. Moses-Belmar has excellent technical skills in adapting and modifying curricula for student success. She has facilitated Special Education workshops for numerous educators and coordinated pioneering seminars for parents of children with disabilities.

Her educational background includes a bachelor’s degree in Speech and Language Science, a Bachelor of Education from the Catholic Religious Educational Development Institute, and a master’s degree in Special and Inclusive Education from the University of the West Indies. She is a deeply committed advocate for special and inclusive education, and her work is rooted in the belief that all children have an inherent right to education.

Ms. Aliya Drakes is the Director of Opal Kids.

Aliya Drakes is a thinker, creator, and doer, and she lends this expertise to ensuring that her company, Opal Kids, delivers outstanding quality therapeutic services to all the families it serves. As an enthusiastic triathlete and coach, she truly believes that the lessons learned in her triathlon and occupational therapy journeys intertwine, and she can draw on her experiences when needed. Aliya is a Pediatric Occupational Therapist and Director of her private practice in the Caribbean island of Trinidad and Tobago. Aliya operates out of three locations nationwide to serve a wider population. Her goal is to empower her clients’ families as much as possible.

L.I.F.E., the Learning Is For Everyone Education Summit, aims to have a lasting positive impact on our community and to offer working solutions to educators and parents, by extension, for our children struggling with speech and language challenges and learning disabilities.

We at LIFE, Learning Is For Everyone, strongly believe that this upcoming Summit will offer our schools, educators, parents, and Government Officials practical solutions, including making an impact.
