Saint Paul, MN – The Planting People Growing Justice Leadership Institute, a leadership organization focused on social change, will host a Literacy Day event to support summer learning for children and families on Saturday, July 15.
The event will be held at the Rondo Community Library (461 Dale Street North, Saint Paul, 55103) from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM and is free to attend.
The 2023 Literacy Day event will be superhero-themed, and visitors are encouraged to dress up for the occasion. There will be book giveaways and free food for all to enjoy. Several local authors will be in attendance signing books to inspire readers of all ages.
Authors Dr. Artika R. Tyner (Justice Makes a Difference: The Story of Miss Freedom Fighter, Esquire), Rosemond Sarpong Owens (The Extraordinary Educator: Dr. Delores Henderson), and Monica Habia (Amazing Africa: A to Z) will be available to speak with throughout the festivities.
Planting People Growing Justice aims for the family-friendly event to promote intergenerational reading. The organization is dedicated to publishing books by Black authors and inspiring more people to read. Planting People Growing Justice will publish 100 books by Black authors in 2023 to increase diversity and representation in print. The project will enable more children to discover characters from similar backgrounds.
