Small business program creates big impact

San Diego Based collaboration nominated for the 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards for the Local Search Marketing Program in partnership with San Diego Workforce Partnership, San Diego Gas & Electric and Walmart Foundation to help small business owners achieve local marketing success and digital success.

San Diego, CA – May 12, 2020 – Fast Company announced the names of the winners of its 2020 World Changing Ideas Awards, honoring the businesses, policies, projects and concepts that are actively engaged and deeply committed to changing the world in different ways.

The Local Search Marketing Program spearheaded by the San Diego Workforce Partnership was nominated for the award after their work with local San Diego Business Owners.  The program was specifically designed to teach local businesses tools, tactics and strategies for digital marketing business owners were given in depth workshops that allowed them to learn and implement while in session.

A panel of eminent judges selected winners and finalists from a pool of more than 3,000 entries across transportation, education, food, politics, technology, and more. The 2020 awards feature entries from across the globe, from Vancouver to Singapore to Tel Aviv. Fast Company’s May/June issue will celebrate and illustrate how some of the world’s most inventive entrepreneurs and companies are addressing grave global challenges.

Strategist Maresa Friedman, who has helped more than 500 small businesses over the last two years for free through her varied technology partnerships with companies like and Microsoft who designed the program and curriculum in partnership with the workforce said  “It goes without saying that we are very honored to even be nominated by Fast Company with a fierce group of gamechangers.   Too many times, we don’t think about the impact a local business has community.  Especially now- small business owners in San Diego and everywhere are fighting the good fight to innovate, pivot and stay open – it’s been amazing to see the innovation and strength and the ability for these businesses to now deploy these strategies. More importantly, the tools the business owners learned will allow them to execute these tactics on their own and help them scale and grow over time.”

The Local Search Marketing Program was open to San Diego County based participants in retail and hospitality based businesses.  There was no fee for participants to participate however, they were required to do a series of exercises in order to participate.  Upon entry, each participant had access to a strategist, a digital footprint report card to help them monitor progress and workshops where concepts were explained and implemented, and a 12 week follow up in a private group with Executive Coaches to keep the group on track.

From companies like Access Trax which offered accessible pathways for people in wheelchairs to the beach to the Trio of Sisters from Dirt Don’t Hurt Me who created their brand of natural products after realizing how many toxic chemicals and preservatives were in things they were putting on our body and spraying in their homes everyday – a diverse group of local owners were able to execute and up-level their digital presence.
