LANCASTER, PA – In its continued mission to provide high quality counseling services, the Sun Point Wellness Center is pleased to announce a new goal. Their plan is to have 20 of their primary therapists trained in EMDR therapy by mid-September.
Sun Point Wellness is a full service mental health center, offering everything from compassionate guidance for teens, to marriage and couples counseling. The team at thecenter specializes in EMDR therapy, LGBTQ and gender issues, and treatment for trauma designed to improve relationships and encourage clients to create their most fulfilling life.
EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing and is a research based technique designed specifically for the treatment of PTSD and emotional pain. In it, a combination of facing emotional and mental suffering as well as external stimuli allows the client to recalibrate their ingrained responses to past wounds. The therapist facilitates the EMDR treatment in addition to standard counseling services. The results after only one session have shown positive effects.
“Trauma affects people in different ways,” says Laura Morse, M.ED, LPC and Executive Director of Sun Point Wellness. “Most people think of trauma as a physical or medical issue, but this is only a small portion of a greater issue. Trauma can also be psychological, and this mental trauma is often overlooked by those who suffer from it. That’s where our new EMDR team can help.”
Sun Point Wellness has seen the efficacy of the treatment firsthand. This is why the practice is fully dedicated to training a larger portion of its staff in the practice and application of EMDR.
