10th Council District Women’s Steering Committee 43rd Annual Installation and Fundraiser Luncheon

A posthumous tribute to founder 10th District Councilman David S. Cunningham, Jr. EMBRACING THE FUTURE: Women-Diversity-Education

10th District Women’s Committee Holds Installation and Fundraiser Luncheon

Event includes posthumous tribute to founder David S. Cunningham, Jr.

A tribute to the late Councilman David S. Cunningham, Jr., will be among the highlights at the Installation and Fundraiser Luncheon sponsored by the 10th Council District Women’s Steering Committee.

The 43rd annual event takes place on Sunday, January 28, from 1:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the USC Radisson Hotel, 2450 Figueroa Street in Los Angeles. The theme is “Embracing the Future: Women – Diversity – Education.”

The program will include keynote speaker Faye Washington, CEO/president of the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles and special guest the Rev. Dr. Cecil L. “Chip” Murray, USC professor of Religious Studies and former pastor of First AME Church of Los Angeles.  Also, Assemblywoman Autumn Burke, Attorney and Entrepreneur Elizabeth Yang, and L.A. City Councilmember, District 6 Nury Martinez will be honored.

In addition, the Rev. Walter R. Tucker III, former Compton mayor and U.S. Congressman, will sign copies of his new book, “From Compton to Congress: His Grace For My Race.”

The salute to Cunningham, who passed away on November 8, 2017, will recognize his numerous contributions as a public servant and supporter of women.  He, along with Congresswoman Maxine Waters and then-Senior Field Deputy Geneva Cox, co-founded the organization in October 1973 to promote civic participation and leadership among women and improve the quality of the life in the 10th Council District.

According to 10th CDWSC President Jacqueline Nunn, “During the last two years of his life, he was dedicated and involved with our organization and sincerely wanted it to thrive and be successful. He was particularly impressed that our Geneva Cox Scholarship program has provided financial assistance to 10th District high school students for the past 30 years.” Nunn added that proceeds from this year’s luncheon benefit the scholarship program.

The luncheon is open to the public. The tickets are $150, which includes the VIP reception and $75 for general admission. For tickets, call (323) 309-7321, (323) 735-0879. Or purchase tickets on line at Eventbrite.com/43rd Fundraiser- Luncheon-tickets or PayPal. This event is open to the public. Partnership, Sponsorships and Vendor space is still available.
