13% of Canadians are unsure if they have or need travel insurance while going on vacation. This study did not surprise Dk Insurance who have been campaigning to make more people aware of how important visitor visa insurance is.
A recent study which was conducted by the Travel Health Insurance Association of Canada found that 13 per cent of Canadians were unsure if they had or needed travel insurance while going on vacation. This study may have shocked many people but the percentage of people who were unsure about visitor visa insurance did not surprise Dk Insurance.
The study also found that 17 per cent of Canadians did not know what their policy covered. Many people who took part in the survey did not understand how important visitor visa insurance was and what would happen to them if they became ill while on vacation without travel insurance.
Travel Insurance is one of the first things a person should take out when booking a holiday abroad. In recent years many people who traveled abroad and became ill have hit the headlines for not having insurance and being forced to pay tens of thousands of dollars to cover hospital bills.
Some people who have traveled abroad and not taken out travel insurance or did not take out the correct travel insurance found themselves having to mortgage their property or seek loans from banks or financial assistance from family and friends. Some people who found themselves stuck abroad and unable to come home due to having to find money to pay for medical treatment and even medical transportation turned to crowdfund campaigns. All these financial problems could have been solved if the correct visitor visa insurance was taken out before travel.
A person who suffers from a broken leg while on vacation in California could expect to pay between US$35,000 to $50,000 if they fail to take out travel insurance.
When asked why it was so important to have the correct travel insurance a spokesman for Dk Insurance replied: “If a person going on vacation does not have the correct travel insurance or does not take out travel insurance then it could result in them being forced into financial ruin. Some medical costs could run into the hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
