Las Cruces, New Mexico – (April 10, 2019) – Professional bull riding returns to the Las Cruces, New Mexico-El Paso, Texas area with the “Bucking for the Cure” event team confirming May 4, 2019 at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Top ranked professional bull riders and bull teams from across the country will be in Las Cruces for this one-night-only event at the “Bucking for the Cure 2019” program. This event also is a fundraiser for Doña Ana County-based charity Cowboys for Cancer Research. A portion of the proceeds from the “Bucking for the Cure 2019” event will be donated to this cause.
This marks the third year Larry Barker of Barker Bulls has produced this event benefiting Cowboys for Cancer Research (C4CR).
In addition to a complete evening of professional bull riding, country sensation Frank Ray will be performing a full concert at the conclusion of the bull riding contest. This post-event concert is free to all ticket holders. A former police officer in Las Cruces, New Mexico, Ray left the police force in 2017 to pursue music full-time, and his career has been in the fast lane ever since. An experienced performer, Ray has opened shows for Keith Urban, Kane Brown, Brett Eldredge, Luke Bryan, Kip Moore, LANCO and Luke Combs. Last year, Ray performed for an audience of 40,000+ at the nationally televised NCAA Sun Bowl Halftime Show. Ray is currently touring nationally: the full tour schedule can be found at frankraymusic.com.
“What truly is wonderful about the Bucking for the Cure event is, you don’t have to be a bull riding expert to truly enjoy the show and have a great time,” said event organizer and bull owner Larry Barker. “It will be an evening of great competitive “family-friendly” entertainment and it supports a wonderful cause.”
Thirty professional bull riders from 11 states and two countries, including several native New Mexico riders are expected to vie for a $10,000 prize. Also in competition will be 15 well-known Bull Teams, including Barker Bulls and Harris Bucking Bulls.
Another new addition to this year’s Bucking for the Cure 2019 event is Miniature bull riding. “Bucking for the Cure 2019 has always been a family event and this year we want the young bull riders in your family to really get involved,” said Las Cruces area Youth Bull Rider Peysen Taylor. Taylor and seven other young riders will open Bucking for the Cure 2019 with a ‘short round’ demonstration on these miniature bulls provided by the Miniature Bull Riding Association. The Miniature Bull Riders Association (MBR) was created in 2010 as a small stock contractor and now has its own finals event in Las Vegas, Nevada at the same place and time as the adult finals, the National Finals Rodeo. More than 50 riders from ages six to 14 compete in circuit events across the U.S. In 2011, two-time Professional Bull Riders (PBR) World Champion Chris Shivers became part owner of the MBR to help develop future bull riders. Miniature bull riding has been called the “logical step” between calf riding and junior bull riding for these young athletes and Bucking for the Cure 2019 is very excited to add this element to this year’s program of family fun.
