Paducah, KY — At just 26 years old, Dujuan Thomas has made history by becoming the youngest city commissioner ever elected in Kentucky. With a vision grounded in service, progress, and unity, Thomas brings a dynamic new voice to the Paducah City Commission, determined to represent and uplift the community he has long called home.
Thomas’s election continues a family tradition of political firsts and public service. His great-grandfather, James H. Thomas, was the first Black city councilman in Clinton, Kentucky—a trailblazer who broke barriers in a time of limited opportunity. James’s daughter, Thomas’s aunt Yvette, followed in his footsteps as Clinton’s first Black councilwoman. Extending the family’s political legacy, Thomas’s cousin, Regina Thomas, served as Secretary of State in New Jersey in the early 2000s. “I’m honored to build on my family’s legacy,” Thomas says. “The achievements of my great-grandfather, aunt, and cousin inspire me daily to give my all to Paducah and to continue breaking down barriers for future generations.”
Thomas’s journey of public service began early. At 17, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he served honorably, later building a career that spans media, business, and community involvement. Known locally for hosting Dujuan Thomas Live, a talk show that brings residents together around key issues, he has become a familiar voice advocating for positive change and community unity.
This election marks Thomas’s third campaign for public office, having run as Kentucky’s youngest mayoral candidate in 2020. His commitment to Paducah’s future and hands-on approach to issues like affordable housing, homelessness, and youth empowerment have earned him widespread support.
With this historic election, Thomas ushers in a new chapter for Paducah, one that honors the city’s heritage while embracing change and progress. As city commissioner, Thomas is eager to work alongside his fellow residents, advocating for solutions that reflect Paducah’s diverse and vibrant community.
