Joliet, Il – June 30, 2018 – The Fight in America 2018 Who’s Who Boxing Event will take place on Saturday night July 21 at the Inwood Athletic Club in Joliet, Illinois. The event will showcase a number of talented young boxers during the evening. Joseph “Jo Jo” Awinongya Jr. will be one of those youngsters honored during the show.
Awinongya is a four-time National Youth Boxing Champion. He recently received the President’s Award for Educational Excellence. As a student-athlete, he was awarded this after posting a 4.0-grade point average at Eisenhower Academy. Awinongya has shown himself to be an exceptional student as well as a promising young boxer with Olympic gold medal aspirations.
The Fight in America 2018 Who’s Who Boxing Event will be attended by Chicago entrepreneur, philanthropist, and Democrat governor hopeful J.B. Pritzker. The Democrat nominee will be on hand at Fight in America 2018 to honor Awinongya. The gubernatorial candidate will be just one of many high-profile guests attending the event. Pritzker won’t have the focus of attention on himself during the evening; however, as all eyes will be on the youth of Illinois which is being honored.
The event will be televised in the local Joliet area on Channel 6. Viewers can tune-in to watch Fight in America 2018 and to see the exhibition boxing matches take place. Fight in American 2018 will also be filmed for the upcoming movie Fight in American 2. The original film can be seen on Amazon Prime and it shows Awinongya and his father Joseph Awinongya Sr. on a whirlwind press tour. The film also shows the young boxer obtaining insightful boxing information from some of the sport’s top experts as he trains for a future career in the ring.
Awinongya received a number of awards previously, including the prestigious Silver Gloves National Championship in the nine to 10-year-old boxing division in 2017 and eleven to 12- year-old boxing division in 2018. In February of this year, Awinongya was honored by Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White during Black History Month.
A Joliet-native, Awinongya has been labeled as the top boxing prospect in America. The 11-year-old Awinongya is trained by his father, who had a successful fight career before turning his attention to training boxers. Awinongya Sr. came to the United States from Ghana during his boxing career and settled in Joliet. He now runs the Will County Boxing Gym out of Chicago Raquet and Fitness Club in Joliet, Il and has produced top-ranked boxers.
Fight in America 2018 Who’s Who Boxing Event will take place on July 21 at Inwood Athletic Club in Joliet, Illinois. Doors open at 6 p.m. and bell time is set for 7 p.m. The event will also feature a special performance from Jesse White Tumblers, NHBW Dance Crew and Bredia Santoro.
