Dr. Julie Shelley, the director and owner of Renew Wellness & Aesthetics is making her practice a center of excellence for intimate wellness for women and men.
According to the center, the mission of IWI is to educate providers to raise the standard of care for women and men in intimate health. Shelley, a designated Center of Excellence physician who’s achieved a higher level of training and experience in intimate health and exclusive member, will identify the right kind of evidence-based solutions to solve her client’s needs. Dr. Shelley understands intimacy is a deeply personal matter. Her team of experts at Renew Wellness & Aesthetics will give clients tailored guidance, from understanding what their conditions are to providing an evidence-based treatment algorithm to solve their individual needs.
“Before opening Renew Wellness & Aesthetics, I took the Intimate Wellness Institute master course and realized how impactful energy-based therapies, platelet-rich plasma and bioidentical hormones were to improving the quality of life of my patients with intimate health concerns. As physicians, we are poorly educated in this space and what therapies are available to solve a growing, underserved market. Physicians need the confidence to address these questions when diagnosing a patient as a whole,” says Shelley.
For women and men, studies show bringing up intimate health issues such as pain or dysfunction, is often difficult and embarrassing and frequently physicians, due to the lack of knowledge or concern, tell you it’s “normal” or something you just have to live when you hit a certain age. According to the recent global women’s health survey from 2018-2019, more than one in four women (25.5%) have discussed or need to discuss with their doctor a lack of interest in intercourse in the past 12 months. 17% of women younger than 66 said they have not but need to discuss with their doctor the lack of interest in intercourse; this is higher than ANY other topic identified as an issue, but had not spoken to their doctor about.
“At Renew Wellness & Aesthetics, the therapies we’re performing for women and men are quick, non-surgical, non-invasive therapies that show significant improvement for women and men dealing with dyspareunia (pain), desire disorders, no feeling or sensation and low-libido that are non-systemic, opioid free treatments that work. There is plenty of data on lasers, radiofrequency, HIFEM, photobiomodulation, PRP and shockwave therapies showing the safety and efficacy of consistent outcomes,” she says.
