Signups will take place from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, and the main event will kick off at 10:00 am, lasting until 2:00 pm. The excitement will unfold at The Mac at Terrace Middle School in Lakeport, California, and is open to youth aged 8-13 years old, regardless of Elk’s Lodge membership.
“This is going to be epic! I can’t wait to make new friends, and this will be cool to participate during winter break from school,” shares Mori Bua, an enthusiastic 8-year-old from Upper Lake.
Patti Powell, a dedicated 23-year member of the Lakeport Elk’s Lodge, expresses, “The Elks Hoop Shoot Free Throw Contest is an opportunity for young people to develop the values of hard work and good sportsmanship in a fun and family-friendly environment. Plus, state winners and their parent(s)/guardian(s) get a trip to Chicago for the finals with transportation, food, and lodging expenses paid by the Elks National Foundation.”
This yearly tradition attracts budding basketball talent from far and wide. Boys and girls in the 8-9, 10-11, and 12-13 age categories are invited to showcase their hoop skills, with each contestant getting 25 shots at the basket. The top performers in each age group will progress through Local, District, State, and Regional rounds, aiming for the ultimate prize—a chance to qualify for the nationals in Chicago, Illinois.
