What is Sports Medicine and why is it Important?

0

In the world of fitness, athletes are always predisposed to musculoskeletal injuries, which significantly vary in severity. To make matters worse, some of these injuries become recurrent, altering the athlete’s career, and in some cases, ending it altogether.

Other patients may complain of chronic pain that’s been there for months or years after inflicting the initial injury. Regardless of the type of injury, you will need the help of a trained professional to organize the management plan. Sports medicine is a field that deals with restoring the function of injured patients and preventing future injuries. It is not a medical specialty per se since many specialties in medicine (e.g., orthopedic surgeon, internal medicine, family medicine) can get training to become a certified doctor in sports medicine.

For the most part, sports medicine physicians and surgeons work with athletes to enhance their performances, treat injuries, and help to prevent them. However, they also work with regular people, including children and teens. Oftentimes, sports medicine physicians collaborate with nutritionists and physical therapists to provide the best possible management for their patients.

Techniques in sports medicine

Sports physicians and orthopedic surgeons often work hand-in-hand to provide the best possible treatment for simple and complex musculoskeletal injuries. The treatment may revolve around physical therapy and lifestyle modifications, but could also include surgical procedures to correct irreversible lesions (e.g., ACL tears). Despite how benign some injuries might seem, you need to contact your doctor as most lesions are better treated when they’re recent. To learn more about scientifically-proven tips that reduce the risk of musculoskeletal injuries, check out this blog post.

Common sports medicine injuries

Sports medicine focuses on the musculoskeletal system, which includes bones, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. As you may know, all of these structures are susceptible to injury, especially when performing quick, “explosive” movements.

Here is a list of injuries that may be encountered in sports medicine:

• Sprain

• Strains and cramps

• Muscle cramps

• Muscle tears

• Ligamentous injuries

• Plantar fasciitis

• Bruises

• Closed fractures (bone does not penetrate the skin)

• Bursitis

• Back pain

• Osteoarthritis

• Tendon tears (patellar tendonitis)

Conclusion

Medicine specifically for sports-related injuries is an exciting field that has enormous potential to help treat athletes and non-athletes alike, especially those with an increasing interest in professional competition. The physicians and experts in sports medicine undergo a long training process to gain the necessary experience for this medical discipline.

Mworld Unveils New Single, “Summertime” Feat. Chelsea Keenan | Out August 21 2020

0

Summertime featuring Chelsea Keenan is the debut single by MWORLD. The track is a feel-good summer song, symbolic of those warm nights spent with friends and family. A mix of UK, Afro and a pinch of pop, this track is sure to get the body moving.

How did the collaboration come along? I’d worked on this beat toward the end of last year, but struggled to find vocals that I loved. Initially I wanted a vocalist from London, but didn’t have much luck when contacting singer/songwriters and ended up on Fiverr® one night. Chelsea’s profile stood out, her hooks were those “stuck in your head for days” type and I had to reach out. As soon as I received the demo, I was instantly drawn to the chorus she’d put together, it was so infectious! As we spoke, Chelsea mentioned she loved the beat and I’d still not found a vocalist, so as fate would have it, we ended up working together on the entire track.

MWORLD Born and raised in West London MWORLD has been on the DJin scene for over 15 years. His eclectic sets have taken M to many destinations around the world, with Jay Z’s world famous 40/40 Club in New York City being his most notable performance this year. M is also the brand Ambassador for The VIP Groups, who are a luxury concierge company operating in Marrakech & Barcelona. Learn more about MWORLD.

What’s the Difference Between Home Warranty and Homeowners Insurance?

0

There are countless details and paperwork involved when buying a home. Organizing everything from start to finish requires considerable time and energy. One of the most important details to address is understanding the differences between home warranties and home insurance. Both protect your home in some way, and there are some overlapping complexities that can further complicate the two.

Home warranties and insurance offer various protections to the homeowner, and they will only cover damages in particular cases. Therefore it’s important to understand the benefits and limitations of each, as well as determining if a home warranty is worth purchasing. Let’s address the key points of both home insurance and home warranties, to guide you in making the right decisions about protecting your assets.

Home Insurance vs. Home Warranty

Home insurance is purchased to protect your home and personal items from unexpected events that may be financially impactful and are outlined in an insurance policy.1 From natural disasters to theft, there are a number of potential hazards to protect yourself and your loved ones from.

Alternatively, home warranties are used to protect home appliances and systems when they break down or stop functioning properly.2 The intention is to be able to repair or replace the item using a warranty instead of paying for it outright.

The definitions of these terms may vary from company to company, based on their policies and procedures, which is why it’s important to always read the fine print associated with your purchase before signing any applicable contracts.

Coverage and Cost

The structure of your home, personal belongings and personal liability can generally be covered by home insurance. In some cases, policies may protect home appliances in instances outlined in the policy. More often, these assets won’t be covered from normal wear and tear.1

In the case of breakdowns or general use, home appliances can be protected by home warranties.2 For example, an oven may have seen better days and stops working as it should, in which case a home warranty would help pay to fix or replace it.

Depending on the specific product offered and company involved, the cost of both home insurance and warranties can vary. Usually, the more comprehensive the coverage, the more expensive it will be for the homeowner.

Additional Details

Submitting a Claim

This can usually be done online or over the phone. Many home warranties require a claim to be filed within a certain time frame in order to remain eligible for coverage. Be sure to check the details of your warranty for associated details.2

Lender Requirements

Mortgage lenders often require the homeowner to have insurance prior to the lender approving their mortgage.1 Alternatively, home warranties are not usually required by lenders.

Coverage Limits

There are coverage limits associated with both home insurance policies and home warranties. These will be clearly outlined when you purchase your policy or warranty.

Lowering the Cost of Coverage

There are a number of options to lower the cost of your home insurance and home warranty coverage. Companies will often have a variety of tiers to choose from so that you, as a homeowner, can decide on the amount of coverage that is right for you.

You may also qualify for discounts by choosing options such as online billing or maintaining good credit history. Be sure to check with the company you’re working with to see what discounts are available.

Another way to lower the cost of your coverage is to raise the associated deductible. In general, the higher the deductible, the lower the cost of coverage will be.3

Understanding the Key Differences

Both home insurance and home warranties offer protection for different instances and it’s important to understand the variations between the two. At the end of the day, receiving the best coverage for your circumstances is critical.

If you’re asking yourself whether a home warranty is worth the cost and conversation, the first thing you should do is read the fine print in your home insurance policy. Taking a close look at the details will help you determine if there are any gaps in your coverage that need to be addressed with warranty.

The Major Tax Changes: An Overview

0
Breaking news. World news with map backgorund. Breaking news modern concept. TV news design.

The new tax law has dominated political discussion for months and will likely continue to do so well into 2018. Consequences, both intended and otherwise, are still unclear. But for now, these are the big changes for both individuals and companies. In general, the changes to individual provisions expire at the end of 2025, but the corporate changes are permanent.

We are available to help you with any questions.

Taxes for Individuals

The big news here is bracket changes. They’ve changed and are generally lower:

  • 10% (income up to $9,525 for individuals; up to $19,050 for married couples filing jointly)
  • 12% (over $9,525 to $38,700; over $19,050 to $77,400 for couples)
  • 22% (over $38,700 to $82,500; over $77,400 to $165,000 for couples)
  • 24% (over $82,500 to $157,500; over $165,000 to $315,000 for couples)
  • 32% (over $157,500 to $200,000; over $315,000 to $400,000 for couples)
  • 35% (over $200,000 to $500,000; over $400,000 to $600,000 for couples)
  • 37% (over $500,000; over $600,000 for couples)

The standard deduction nearly doubles, to $12,000 for singles and $24,000 for couples. This means fewer people will find it advantageous to itemize.

Those who continue to itemize, however, will see significant changes — especially if they’re homeowners:

  • All state and local tax deductions are limited to $10,000.
  • The mortgage interest deduction is limited to payments on $750,000 of debt. If you bought a property before Dec. 15, 2017, you’re in luck: the current $1 million will be grandfathered in. Home equity loan interest is still deductible, but only in limited situations.

The alternative minimum tax is still in existence, but the exemption is increased, meaning fewer will be paying it.

The child tax credit is doubled to $2,000, with a refundable portion up to $1,400.

The estate tax is still with us, but the exemptions have been doubled. The number of families that will be subject to the federal estate tax is now vanishingly small.

Taxes for Businesses

The big story here is the lowering of the tax rate from 35% to 21%. However, there are other important provisions:

  • The corporate AMT is eliminated.
  • The limit on Section 179 expensing is increased to $1 million.
  • The new law limits the deduction for net operating losses to 80% of taxable income.
  • Instead of being an immediate deduction, research and development expenditures will need to be written off gradually. (This provision doesn’t kick in immediately, however.)
  • “Passthrough” companies get a 20% reduction, but there is an income phaseout.

According to the IRS, the new law also disallows “employer deductions for (1) activities generally considered to be entertainment, amusement, or recreation; (2) membership dues for clubs organized for business, pleasure, recreation, or other social purposes; or (3) a facility used in connection with the above items, even if the activity is related to the active conduct of trade or business. It also disallows deductions for expenses associated with transportation fringe benefits or expenses incurred providing transportation for commuting (except as necessary for employee safety).”

Businesses and individuals will need to carefully consider what their situation is in 2018 and plan accordingly.

Small Businesses: Remain Tax-Aware During Pandemic

0
Very successful young team. Business people.

Don’t scramble to get all your finances together a few days before the deadline. If you do, you’re setting yourself up for disaster. This has never been more true than this year.

What will you need to gather?

  • Last year’s business tax return.
  • Payroll documents.
  • Bank and credit card statements.
  • Accounting documents.
  • Partnership agreements.
  • Depreciation schedules.
  • Any paperwork relating to pandemic-related loans.

You want to make a thorough accounting of all income and expenses associated with your small business, so save these documents too:

  • Gross receipts.
  • Checking and savings account interest.
  • Returns and allowances.
  • Sales records.
  • Unclassified income.
  • Employee wages.
  • Insurance premiums.
  • Professional fees.
  • Contractor payments.
  • Office rent or the portion of the rent or mortgage paid on your home.
  • Transportation and travel expenses.
  • Advertising costs.
  • Office supplies and equipment.
  • Phones and other communication devices.

If you have easy access to these receipts and documents, you’ll be more accurate when it comes time to file your small-business tax returns. Plus, you can deduct your small-business expenses to save money on your taxes. You’re allowed to deduct “ordinary and necessary” expenses your business incurs, which lowers the amount you owe in taxes. Take advantage of these tips to keep from overpaying your taxes each year:

  • Vehicle expenses. If you can prove that you use the vehicle for business purposes, you may be able to deduct the cost of operating the vehicle. You can use the standard mileage rate or actual car expenses like oil, gas, repairs and auto insurance.
  • Business insurance. You may be able to deduct the premiums on your business owner’s policy, health insurance and malpractice insurance. The IRS provides guidance on deducting small-business insurance expenses.
  • Rent. If you rent the space you do business in, you can deduct your rent payments on your small-business taxes, as well as on the equipment and machinery you use. If you’re using your home, you can deduct the rent you pay for that portion of your house. (This provision can get complicated quickly, so don’t make any immediate assumptions.)

As a small-business owner, you’ll have to meet multiple deadlines. Not all deadlines apply to every kind of business, but there’s a lot to go through. A look at Publication 509, Tax Calendars will give you an idea of how complicated this can get.

The quarterly estimated small-business taxes can be calculated by estimating your expected adjusted gross income, taxable income, deductions and tax credits for the year. The best gauge is to use last year’s taxes as a guide. The IRS’s Estimated Tax Worksheet can help you calculate how much you’ll owe in estimated quarterly small-business taxes.

Finally, keep in mind that this is just an introductory guide to what can be complicated laws and regulations, with lots of exceptions and subtleties. Not all deductions noted here are available in all situations. Be sure to consult a tax professional to make sure you are properly taking the right deductions for your business.

6 Common Financial Stress Triggers and How to Overcome Them

0

As companies continue to navigate the uncertainties that have come with the coronavirus pandemic and employees figure out their day-to-day routine, financial stress triggers are bound to occur. While feelings of stress and anxiety are certainly heightened amidst the current pandemic, feeling stressed about your finances isn’t anything new.

In fact, an American Psychological Association (APA) study found that 72 percent of Americans have felt stressed about money at least some of the time during the first few months of the COVID-19 pandemic.1

Here are six financial stress triggers that you may be experiencing and our tips on how to overcome them.

Trigger #1: Making Too Many Financial Decisions at Once

Making financial decisions can be overwhelming. Where you can, try writing down and organizing what needs to be done and how quickly. Decide what can wait (maybe a home renovation project) versus what can’t (such as car repairs or maintenance).

Figuring out where you can minimize decision making and space out your financial obligations can help ease the stress of dealing with everything at once.

Trigger #2: Losing Track of Your Spending

It’s easy to lose track of your spending, especially when using credit cards or contactless pay. The problem is, when the bill or bank statement comes around, it can be shocking to see how much you’ve spent. Keeping track of your spending in the first place can really help reduce the stress and anxiety you feel when it comes time to check your account.

Trigger #3: Credit Card Debt

Having too much credit card debt goes hand-in-hand with letting your spending go unchecked. While it’s nice to build good credit, and many credit cards offer reward points based on how much you use it, you still need to track your spending.

Credit card debt can rack up quickly. If you can’t pay off your credit card, interest will grow – and quickly. Credit card companies make millions off the interest of unpaid balances, meaning paying at least the minimum payment each month should be a top priority of yours. Credit card debt can creep up quickly, and nipping it in the bud is much easier than trying to tackle it later down the line.

Trigger #4: Paying for your Children’s Tuition

College tuition is always on the rise. In fact, the cost of college has increased by more than 25 percent in the last 10 years.2 This is a huge financial stress on many families, especially those with multiple children. While it may be a goal of yours to pay for your child’s education, it just isn’t always possible.

Many students have to take out student loans and apply for financial aid, which adds to the mounting student debt around the country. More than 40 million people collectively have over $1.5 trillion in student loan debt.3 To help reduce the amount of debt your child may have to take on in the future, you can start working now to help save. Options like a 529 plan are designed specifically for funding future education. Work with your financial advisor to determine how else you may be able to prepare.

Trigger #5: Paying for Healthcare Expenses

You never know when a sudden medical emergency will arise, and when one does, it can be a major financial stressor for many families. Aside from the general doctor visits and prescriptions, an unexpected hospital visit can really set a family back, and it can take months or even years to pay back these expenses.

If you have health insurance, take the time to reevaluate your coverage. Run through potential “what if” scenarios to determine how much you could be left paying out of pocket for you and your dependents. If you know you’ll be responsible for paying a significant amount in the event of a medical emergency, focus on padding your emergency fund. Add to it regularly and determine if you’re in a position to be contributing even more.

Trigger #6: Costs of Raising a Child

In a recent survey, 53 percent of those with dependent children say they are financially stressed.4 Beyond funding their education, other costs include:

  • Diapers and formula for infants
  • Childcare for younger children
  • Doctor visits
  • Family vacations
  • Food
  • Clothing

As any parent knows, the list goes on and on. You want nothing but the best for your children, and for many families, this may mean spending more than you have to support them and provide for them in the best way that you can.

To help alleviate some of the stress, revisit your family budget – or make one if you haven’t yet. Laying out all upcoming expenses on paper can help make them feel more manageable, and it can give you a sense of how much you should expect to spend.

Budgeting puts you back in control of your family’s finances, especially when it comes to

caring for your kids.

Getting your finances in order is not an easy feat. Start by identifying your own financial stressors and determining how you can start to address them. Doing so can help you and your family in the long run by providing a stronger financial future and peace of mind.

Local HVAC Company Stresses The Importance of Proper Air Filtration During COVID-19

0

quantumsolutions

quantum_k@yahoo.com

The pandemic has more than just a few people scrambling and looking for answers. Schools are beginning to reopen, and more than one has already shuttered its doors because of contact with people with the COVID-19 virus.

While it is difficult to protect a family and loved ones in public even with personal protective equipment, it would make sense that the home would be one place where safety is all but guaranteed.

Those living with someone with the COVID-19 virus are certainly taking as many precautions as feasible, including necessary social distancing, hygiene and sanitation. However, there is one part of the home that is often overlooked and could be a helpful ally in the fight against having the virus spread.

The home HVAC system does much more than simply heat and cool a home. The system regulates humidity and, importantly in times like now, filters out potential allergens and infectious particles that could include the COVID-19 virus.

Valleywide Cooling, a local HVAC system service provider, has the best suggestion to help protect a family, business or commercial location against potential exposure to the virus. Changing and maintaining the home air filtration system is a huge step in keeping airborne particles from entering other parts of the home.

A well maintained HVAC filter keeps the system running as efficiently as possible. As particulate material is caught by the filter, it begins to clog. As clogs form, it becomes more difficult for the HVAC system to perform, straining the system and raising the home power bill. Proper replacement of the air filter keeps this from happening.

Valleywide Cooling stresses to everyone the importance of health, safety and well being during this pandemic. They also recommend regular air conditioning maintenance and changing the air filter monthly for best defense against the COVID-19 virus and the other potential harmful particulates that move through the HVAC system. More LGBT People Using Dating Sites During Coronavirus BiCupid.com

0

BiCupid.com a dating portal made exclusively for bisexual men and women who wish to break the shackles and find a compatible partner has reported a huge increase in the number of people using their dating site during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

With more than 23.7 million coronavirus cases and more than 814 thousand deaths, The World Health Organization has warned that having casual sex is dangerous and could help spread the deadly disease. This strong message has resulted in the LGBT+ community listening and instead of meeting people in public for causal sex they are instead turning to the BiCupid.com dating site to meet new people and flirt in a safe and controlled environment.

It is not just the World Health Organization who are asking single people to stop having casual sex, the British HIV/AIDS charity Terrence Higgins Trust (THT) this week issued a statement. They are asking for people not to hook up for casual sex and to keep two meters apart.

“I have never been an advocate of promoting abstinence … but these are extraordinary and unprecedented times,” Dr. Michael Brady, medical director at THT, said in a statement.

It is not just the warning of avoiding having casual sex that has increased the traffic to online LGBT+ dating sites. It is also down to the fact that many clubs and social gathering places are currently closed, which makes it hard for people to meet new people.

A spokesman for BiCupid.com explained why they have seen a huge increase in members. “With a warning to avoid casual sex, we have seen a huge increase in the number of people using our dating site to meet like-minded people, but it is not just that warning or the social distancing rule. With lockdown still in force in some cities around the world, more people are using our dating site to make new friends and look for love.”

The popular dating site is seeing a current increase in the UK, Spain, and Italy due to the high-level of coronavirus cases. With people still being lockdown and unable to visit pubs, bars, and clubs, the online dating site gives them an avenue to still meet people in the virtual world.

BiCupid.com has become one of the leading dating sites for the LGBT+ community. To learn more about their dating site and to meet new people, please visit https://www.bicupid.com/threesome-dating/singles-couples-dating to https://www.bicupid.com

About BiCupid.com

Since its inception in 2003, the website has only focused on enhancing its features thereby making it convenient for like-minded men and women to explore this segment of dating.

As we all continue to dream about travel and work to stay inspired, the big question is when and what will be the new normal in our industry? When will our clients feel safe to travel again? Sadly, there are inconsistencies in safety standards when it comes to flights, so we have aviation professionals ready to book private air charters, for those who wish to fly privately.

In the meanwhile, for our team, it’s time to SUPPORT OUR U.S. ECONOMY and Discover the USA! I’ve been fortunate to have traveled through over half of the U.S. There is so much beauty right here at home, with big skies and wide-open places to feel safe, enjoy and relax… hike, bike and reconnect with nature.  As I write this, I have been “Glamping” in a new luxury RV for the past two weeks through the remote, backroads and under-populated natural areas of my home state, California. Even though I have lived here my entire life, and have traveled extensively throughout, I love finding and sharing new discoveries on this journey, every day.  If you are interested in my itinerary and my newfound pros and cons of RV glamping, I’m happy to share my experiences. Some of them will be good for a few much-needed laughs!

“We are all in this together” is not just a mantra, it’s an attitude and commitment to help each other to make it through this storm. Let’s keep our heads up, continue to evolve, adapt and support each other. And most importantly, stay inspired and keep dreaming of travel!
