The U.K.’s most prestigious and well-known organization representing and promoting crime writers have picked American/British detective author Teddy Hayes to be a part of their judging panel to choose a winner of “The Dagger Award” for crime fiction in the John Creasy “New Blood” category.
Teddy Hayes is well known for his creation of Devil Barnett, an African American ex-CIA assassin turned detective who owns a jazz club called “The BeBop Tavern”, and operates mainly out of Harlem New York.
Hayes’ first detective novels were initially published more than twenty years ago, in London by “The Xpress”, and then followed in the USA by “Justin Charles Publishers”.
A growing fan base and fascination with the gritty, hard-boiled, kick-ass detective has resulted in eight Devil Barnett novels so far, as well as interest from Hollywood.
“To be asked to be a part of the Crime Writer’s Association judging panel is for me a great form of recognition, an honour, and a high point in my career; because The “Dagger Awards” are very well known, and highly respected throughout the world. I wonder would they have been more sympathetic, if they had known my distraction with school and my love of crime novels would lead to this,” Hayes laughed.

Diepenbeek, Limburg – Genocide survivor, Niki Colemont, is pleased to announce he has been given a second chance at life as a successful nature photographer.
Niki Colemont is a Belgian nature photographer whose current work focuses on playful photos of squirrels. He’s previously been featured in the Flemish television network VTM, the Belgian-Dutch newspaper HLN, and the French channel BFMTV, among others. Additionally, Niki was also a National Geographic 2019 finalist.
Before turning to nature photography, however Niki experienced more than his fair share of tragedy. The photographer was born in Rwanda in 1986, just a few years before the genocide. Niki’s mother died during childbirth, leaving him with just his father and sister. When the Rwandan Genocide and war began in 1990, 4-year-old Niki and his sister fled to Belgium as refugees, while their father stayed behind to fight. Sadly, his dad died in the war, leaving Niki and his sibling as orphans. In 2019, his sister also passed away, aged just 38.
With no formal education, Niki had to learn everything through trial and error. Luckily, the beauty of nature and a love of his Nikon camera have helped Niki heal from his past and find meaning in life. They’ve also given him something to focus on during times of uncertainty and lockdown. Niki has now begun to gain traction on social media, making him more motivated than ever to continue honing his craft.
Currently, Niki takes photos of squirrels in his back garden in creative and entertaining poses. Some of his images feature the animals jumping in mid-air, with nuts in their mouths or playing with a plastic dinosaur toy. The pictures have brought joy to many, helping Niki gain more than 5,000 followers on Instagram and coverage in national and international media.
“With all the things that have happened in my life, I was still able to enjoy my hobby,” says Niki. “Luckily, my girlfriend and her parents believed in me from the start and gave me the freedom I needed to pursue what I love.”

The House of Houdini is a private museum in Budapest, Hungary founded by Italian escape artist David Merlini. The museum houses the largest collection of original Houdini paraphernalia in Europe and controls the commercial rights for the Houdini name within the EU.
CCV is a privately held investment group specialized in the financing and acquisition of entertainment and media industry startups. CCV spokesman said the company “can’t offer comment on any confidential discussions or transactions in progress”.
Harry Houdini (born Ehrich Weiss March 24, 1874 – October 31, 1926) was a Hungarian-born American illusionist and stunt performer, noted for his sensational escape acts. He gained international fame for his miraculous escapes from chains, handcuffs and straitjackets, usually while under water or dangling in mid-air.
Harry Houdini died of peritonitis secondary to a ruptured appendix on October 31, 1926, aged 52. Despite his skepticism about the spirit world, Houdini swore to his wife Bess that he would try to contact her from beyond the grave. He told her to listen for a specific message—a series of codes that spelled out the words “Rosabelle, believe.” Bess Houdini eventually spent a decade trying to contact her husband before giving up, supposedly saying, “ten years is long enough to wait for any man.”
Almost a hundred years after his death, his name is still synonymous with death-defying stunts and unimaginable escapes.
