Jeffrey McCullough Releases New Single ‘Dragon Me Around’

The latest from the Nashville based troubadour is a master class in grunge inspired alt rock.

 

Jeffrey McCullough is a rock’n’roll lifer, having spent his life traveling and playing music since he was a teenager.  His style is equally indebted to 90’s alt rock and Bruce Springsteen, as he writes emotionally charged songs that passionately chronicle the everyday struggles of the common man.  His latest single showcases his gift for moody atmospheres and cathartic guitar riffs, punctuated by an epic throwback guitar solo that shows Jeffrey to be in a class of his own.

With its intricate layers of guitars and a steadily crushing beat, ‘Dragon Me Around’ would have sounded right at home on the top of the charts in the mid 90’s, but Jeffrey’s evocative vocals make sure this song is no simple throwback.  His storytelling is honest and direct, addressing the miscommunications and misunderstandings that bring good relationships to an end.

“Everyday I try to grow somehow closer to your heart,” he sings.  “Then I realize I’m the one that’s tearing us apart.”  Jeffrey’s greatest lyrical gift is his ability to mix poetic language with everyday speech to magnify the importance of what he is singing about.  His raspy voice is the perfect vehicle for these lyrical musings, as he sings with the passion of a man whose constant search for understanding keeps him invigorated.

Guitar music may not be as popular as it once was, but Jeffrey’s devotion to the instrument is unwavering, as he uses it to express his innermost feelings.  The song reaches a crescendo about two minutes in, when he unleashes a solo that captures the songs emotion in a way that words never could.
