Epiphan Video unveils Pearl Nano single-channel video encoder for small-scale live events, SRT contribution, and more

Palo Alto, CA – October 1, 2020 – Epiphan Video’s Pearl family of hardware encoders is growing with the upcoming release of Pearl Nano, a versatile single-channel video encoder that offers a refined yet powerful feature set in a compact form factor.

“With Pearl Nano, we wanted to give customers a better fit for applications where you don’t need that all-in-one system like a Pearl-2 or Pearl Mini,” says David Kirk, Epiphan’s marketing VP. “Not every event requires many inputs or channels, and then there’s contribution encoding where you really only need one camera and a microphone.”

Users can also add Pearl Nano onto an existing video production setup to leverage the device’s streaming and recording capabilities. Nano’s broad streaming protocol support includes modern protocols like Secure Reliable Transport (SRT), Dynamic Adaptive Streaming over HTTP (DASH), and HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), as well as standard ones like RTMP and RTMPS.

Nano boasts several features that are uncommon or unseen in other single-channel encoders. A screen built into the device’s front allows for basic configuration and control as well as confidence monitoring during streaming and recording. Rear inputs include HDMI and SDI video, two line-level XLR ports for professional audio, an HDMI program out, and an HDMI pass through for zero-latency content display on in-room monitors. To further streamline setup, Nano also supports Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) in addition to DC power.

Also unique to Nano is the powerful custom layout builder. This lets users tailor their video program with a single-source or picture-in-picture layout that can include a dynamic background, graphics, text overlays, and other elements.

“We looked at the gaps in the market and let that inform Nano’s development,” says Epiphan product manager Greg Quirk. “You see that in the front screen for confidence monitoring and control, the HDMI pass through and professional audio inputs, and the modern streaming standards Nano supports.”

SRT encoding and decoding will prove a major application for Nano, Quirk adds. “Nano is a great solution for remote contribution since it’s small and light for shipping and also straightforward for non-technical users to connect their sources and start a stream.”

Adding to Nano’s SRT capabilities is remote accessibility through the Web-based user interface and Epiphan Cloud, a centralized platform for configuration and monitoring of Epiphan devices. This enables producers to remotely manage and control Pearl systems located anywhere in the world, reducing the likelihood of configuration errors and making for an easier production overall.

Like Pearl-2 and Pearl Mini, Nano includes advanced security features like LDAP, 802.1x, and SSL, as well as deep integration with video platforms Kaltura and Panopto, which makes it possible for users to start and stop events right from the front screen. And a first for a Pearl system: an expansion bay lets users install an M.2 SSD for additional local storage. Nano can also store recordings on an SD card inserted into the system’s SD card slot, as well as connected USB or network-attached storage devices.

Epiphan expects to begin taking orders for Pearl Nano shortly, with units shipping to customers before year end.

First Ever Kart Racing & Make-Up Collaboration – Sofia Necchi & Arwa Beig

We live in a world full of numerous collaborations, whether it is a university combining powers with big industry players to push different discoveries, or it’s two individuals uniting their talents to inspire the future. I recently interviewed two ambitious young women, Sofia Necchi, 13, and Arwa Beig, 20. Midst the global pandemic, both keep moving forward and continue to cultivate what they love doing.

Arwa Beig, 20, is an American Indian living in Dubai who graduated from Glauca Rossi School in London to become a certified make-up artist. She is currently working on her brand Arwa Beauty Beliefs, under which she creates looks with meanings and shares them on her Instagram blog.

Sofia Necchi, 13, is Italian who also lives in Dubai and can speak the fluent racing language. Yes, you heard me right; not only did she begin practicing kart racing from the age of five, but she can easily name the specifications of any Ferrari model without stuttering.

Last Saturday, Sofia competed in the Rotax Max Challenge, where she got P2 in the final race. Just a few days before her big race, Arwa and Sofia have done something no one has ever tried before – they collaborated to create the first-ever racing make-up look to celebrate women empowerment. Arwa first met Sofia at the Kart Drome in Dubai, where she usually gets her training under the Kart Advisor Academy founded by her father.

The energy in that garage was terrific that day as I witnessed Arwa doing Sofia’s make-up look while they were chatting together and expressing admiration for what each of them has achieved. I was stunned that the final look was so suited for Sofia if you knew this girl – young, unique, and energetic.

Arwa did an excellent job translating Sofia’s spirit into a single look making the whole collaboration more than just another make-up gig. They have proved once again that women don’t need to be like men to rise, especially in male-dominated industries like racing. Still, when women empower one another, anything becomes possible and simply more beautiful.

Sofia Necchi, a 13-year old Italian living in Dubai, couldn’t wait long after being inspired by her father, Paulo Necchi, who dedicated his life to the racing industry. He recently found the Kart Advisor Academy in Dubai, where karting enthusiasts can get expert training and where Sofia gets her weekly practices. Imagine that only at the age of 5, Sofia already began practicing in different tracks driving the mini kart gifted to her by her parents. At eight, she started her racing activity by joining the Championskart By Parolin, where she achieved a podium at Adria in the Rookie category. By then, it was already clear that Sofia had a real talent backed by her aspirations and by the best support system she could ever ask for– her trainer and her father, Paulo.

On September 26, 2020, Sofia competed at the Rotax Max Challenge, where she finished P2 in the Final race, making her the only girl standing on the podium. Not only did she take a huge step forward towards her exciting racing journey, but she opened another page in the history of racing by breaking all the gender stereotypes of what young females can achieve with their hard work and dedication. Sofia may not realize it now, but her hard work is pushing forward the new reality where the youth steps to inspire their peers and challenge the old notions of career growth. One day, Sofia can become a professional racing driver, and then she will go on conquering her other peaks. But one thing I can tell you for sure, the name Sofia Necchi very soon will be heard loud and clear.

‘Till You Find Your Heart’ is the new single by JaKe X

Verona, Italy – Oct 1, 2020 – Till your find your Heart is the fourth edit released throughout the first year since the Italian singer and producer JaKe X kickstarted his solo career. The song came to light in a cold winter night, reminiscing and digging some past moments of his life, kinda forgotten though truly never gone. The artist wanted the vocals to be leading and carrying the listener’s ears, telling how bad it can be as one’s walking the wrong path; on the other hand, finding the strength that lets you break your shackles and embrace your destiny turns to be a new birth, the beginning of a new life.

This fourth edit gets released along with JaKe X’s first videoclip. He feels it goes perfectly with the song and it definitely tells about him and his being. He wanted a location that could bring on screen light and shadow, darkness and brightness. The dancer mimic, movements and sinuosity was meant to be the “light”, the sweet, the smooth part of walking the path to find your heart. The artist’s character impersonates the darker side, the weight that shadow carries and the shackles that are so hard to remove.

The artist

He approached music since he was still very young, at the age of 9, firstly beginning to take guitar classes, privately. After 2 years, he joined CSM Music School and continued improving guitar skills under the guidance of Andrea Sarasini. In the meantime, he learns the piano on his own.

At the age of 15, given the passion for writing his own music and singing along, he began vocal studies, under the coaching of Laura Ruscelli. The very same year, he joined the music company “Fabula Musica”, always headed by Laura Ruscelli. The first year, he toured the main theaters of the region playing the role of Febo, within the musical “Notre Dame de Paris”. The year after, Fabula Musica continues the tour with a new show where Giacomo still plays solo roles.

In 2009 he quits the vocal studies and intensifies the live activities with several bands, mostly on rock/metal genre. The need of improving and technical skills to perform and record within this genre leads him to meet Michele Luppi (Vision Divine, Secret Sphere, Whitesnake) and begins his “Voice Control” course. This new path improves dramatically the knowledge, the awareness, the skills and the usage of his voice. He’ll attend Luppi till mid 2014.

In 2013, with his band Burn of Black, he records the first EP of the band, named Danger: the album gets a lot of credits, praising the unexpected great sound that the clean vocals contrasted with heavy riffs and drumming delivered.

In 2014, he joins Lunar Explosion, a young heavy metal band with a great background behind (played with Dennist Stratton, Michael Angelo Batio etc). At the end of 2014 together with Lunar Explosion he shares the stage with Jennifer Batten, historical guitarist of Michael Jackson. Giacomo and Lunar Explosion will play 2 songs on stage with Jennifer. The event still is remembered as one of the greatest. In early 2015, another milestone of his music path: a tour in Brazil supporting Blaze Bayley (ex Iron Maiden). The tour has been an extreme success.

In late 2015, Burn of Black renovate the lineup and change their name to “UnHuman Insurrection”: this is a crucial moment in which, thanks to the partnership with Alpha Omega Management, the band starts to hit big stages and, in general, approaching to a higher level of the international music scenario. Among all things, a must-quote are the gig opened to Sabaton in Riga (Latvia) in December 2016, the one with Lacuna Coil in Saint Petersburg (Russia) in May 2017 and those in Moscow and Samara (Russia) with Arch Enemy, in October 2017.

In 2017 he records the album “Equilibrium?” that will be out in 2018.

On March 2019 together with UnHuman Insurrection he goes back in Russia, this time supporting a part of the tour of At The Gates.

On July he participates at the MetalDays 2019 Festival, performing on the main stage.
