Cheap pet constructor
Pittsburgh-based robotics startup Petoi has developed a device called the Bittle, a miniature robot dog. However, this is not a ready-made toy for children, but a construction set that still needs to be assembled.
In the assembly kit, buyers are offered a set of plastic parts, several servos for the joints of the legs and head, a lithium-ion battery, which should be enough for about an hour of device operation, and an electronics kit including an Arduino NyBoard V1 board, a gyro stabilizer for balancing, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi dongles as well as an infrared remote control.
After assembling their robot, the user then needs to write commands for it using Petoi’s OpenCat software. Optionally, you can also purchase a camera or a gesture sensor that simply clamps into the jaws of the robot.
The Bittle measures 20x11x11cm and weighs less than 280g and can carry up to 450g of payload under the belly. The maximum walking speed of the device exceeds two body lengths per second. In addition, it can memorize dozens of movement patterns, and perform various actions using a remote control in real-time.
The complete Bittle kit is currently available on Kickstarter for $ 195. Deliveries are promised to start in December this year.

This Kingdom’s site says that it was established in 2011 by their founder, Brett Larsen. Larsen is a Seattle area musician who has had international success with his UFO themed music project “Inquire Within”. MANILA, Philippines – In its pursuit of making a defining entrance in the beauty industry this September, Strokes Beauty Lab has made its first wave of global domination in the Big Apple with a team of world-class creatives bringing its products’ artistic potential to life.
Strokes started its journey as a brand with the opening of Strokes Eye Beauty Studio by Momoi Supe in 2015: the pioneer and the only eye beauty studio in the Philippines, providing semi-permanent makeup and innovative eyelash and skin care services, with brow sculpting as its signature service. It quickly achieved indubitable success.
Because of the realized potential of his studio’s services, Founder and CEO Momoi Supe dreamed bigger. He thought, why confine the potentials of his artistic creations in a room when he can bring them to the world?
He wanted to make the art of microblading and eyebrow permanent makeup available to the world by creating its product counterpart of the highest quality marketed at the best price.

In preparation for its September 2020 launch, Strokes became one of the select few Filipino brands to work with globally prominent creative talents from New York to shoot its campaign.
The process of selecting the campaign talents to work with was a tedious one, but at the same time, an almost-no-brainer for Momoi.
To achieve the creative quality that is expected of global brand promotion, Momoi sought to work with an artist who has an extensive background and experience in creative direction; someone who has already worked with international brands; and someone who has a clear understanding of the vision of Strokes as a makeup brand.
The first and only choice was an international creative directing genius.
New York-based Filipino Creative Director Audie Umali has been tapped by several other Filipino brands in the past. Strokes, however, is the first Philippine-based company he has ever worked with.
“The team at Strokes approached me with an intriguing proposition: to help shape their new beauty brand by bringing the craft and aesthetic sensibilities of a global brand to a homegrown Manila brand,” said Audie in an email interview.
Audie has only ever worked with big global beauty and luxury brands in New York, London, and Paris, and thought “it would be an interesting endeavor to work on a Filipino brand, (since I’ve never done so), and bring my experience and expertise to the project.”
Dubbing New York as “the capital of the beauty business”, Audie found it fit for a brand to start its global journey in the city that never sleeps.
“Many iconic beauty brands are headquartered here and many top-notch beauty campaigns are produced here, so you have a lot of creative talent here with rich experience in the category.“
Audie remarked that the creative team working on this Strokes project has worked with many high caliber beauty brands such as Tom Ford, Estee Lauder, Mac, Revlon, and Laura Mercier. Given this, he notes, “Our collective experience working in beauty helps to bring that global approach that the Strokes team is looking for.”
The conceptualization for the whole creative work and campaign were done through seemingly endless hours of Zoom meetings, an unavoidable measure that they had to undertake in the midst of a global pandemic.
Despite the limitations, however, the results were a visual masterpiece.
Audie drew inspiration for the creative process and decisions from the products’ benefits and attributes. He recalled, “Each product has its own distinctive product story and style, and we wanted to bring that to life through the women we portrayed in the campaign.”
He refers to the images as “a celebration of multi-dimensionality of women, reflecting all the different facets of their beauty and style,” with some conveying “youthful sensibility”, some “a sense of street cool and hipness”, and some “portraying a look that is more chic, understated and effortless”.
“We have shots that make more of a bold glam statement, where we transformed our models into bold glamazons reminiscent of old-school supermodels. Then there are images that convey a softer, more feminine, romantic feeling,” he added.
For Audie, what sets Strokes apart from other beauty brands is its roots that blossomed into a level of mastery and expertise that they translated into a line of readily available cosmetic products.
“Brow artistry is at the heart of the Strokes brand, so naturally they have an impressive portfolio of brow products unlike any other local brand. Whatever brow look you can dream up, Strokes has the products to make that happen. In general, a lot of care and consideration was put into the formulation and design of their products, and you can see how that quality translates in the makeup payoff on the models.”
Featured in the New York shoot are models from varying ethnic backgrounds and gender, all of which having impressive portfolios under their belts that catapulted them to top-model status. Frank Reps’ Hikaru Hirano, whose past works were featured in the likes of Vogue Arabia and Harper’s Bazaar U.S., was the shoot’s hairstylist.
Of the models’ selection process, Audie rounded up a roster of models whose beauty would resonate not only with the Filipinos, but with the rest of the world.
“It was our objective to cast a diverse group of faces that felt ‘global’, and we’ve landed on a group of faces that we feel reflect that – from a true morena Filipina beauty to a biracial Latina/African-American to a Taiwanese freckled male and many in-between,” Audie said.
Among the campaign ravishers are Merille Raagas, the Filipina model from STATE Management; Haejin Lee, the Korean stunner from Wilhelmina Models; and other models to keep an eye out for.
The makeup artist, internationally recognized maven Misha Shahzada, was introduced to Filipino cosmetic products during the shoot, and the brand did not disappoint.
“I appreciated the range of products and quality/longevity,” said Misha in an email interview.
Additionally, she said, “Considering the brand stemmed from primarily eyebrow products, it’s quite amazing how nicely it’s expanded while not compromising its quality and integrity.”

In November of 1996, California voters approved Proposition 209, a California State constitutional amendment, providing that government entities “shall not discriminate against, or grant preferential treatment to, any individual or group on the basis of race, sex, color, ethnicity, or national origin in the operation of public employment, public education, or public contracting.” (Cal. Const. Article 1, Section 31.)
It was March 2014, when the first attempt to repeal prop 209 (via SCA5) which would introduce race, ethnicity, and skin color as discriminatory factors in admissions to the public education, employment, and contracts. Then our esteemed Congressman, Ro Khanna, strongly opposed it and signed the following pledge (image)
Guess what? A few days ago, Congressman Ro Khanna changed his mind and now thinks that race, color, sex, national origin-based discrimination or preference to UC admissions, public jobs, and public contract awards is the right thing to do.
Published on “Opportunity for all coalition” blog site, representative Khanna said, “As a proud member of the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) community, I wholeheartedly endorse ACA 5 (now call as Prop16) — because every single Californian stands to benefit from affirmative action and equal opportunity programs, programs that have never been more critical than they are today.”
He continued, “Make no mistake: Proposition 209 was authored by Wall-Street-backed interests who felt threatened by an increasingly diverse California, so they put a thumb on the scale for their own businesses. This hurt countless California communities — very much including my AAPI community. Our enrollment in the UC system has suffered; our ability to build strong businesses has been hamstrung, and our ability to secure good-paying jobs has been undercut. Anyone who says anything different is misrepresenting the facts — because AAPI Californians will benefit from ACA 5 (now call as Prop16), period.”
Congressman Ro Khanna has really lost touch with the community of the 17th district. He falsely claims that it benefits Asian, Indian, and Pacific Islander communities. Truth is that it benefits only untrustworthy politicians like him, and others who have opposed it. It was legally challenged three times and lost. The lies perpetrated by Ro Khanna, in his statements above, are unbelievably devious. He is misleading the Asian community with false information that they are being hurt by prop 209. He is hoping that they will not do any diligence, and vote for Prop 16. What is his real purpose for flipping on what he promised in 2014? Unclear!
Truth is that, under the existing state constitution, UC colleges take account of each individual applicant’s personal story and achievements. All factors except the race, color, sex, and ethnicity are considered in the UC admissions! It sounds compatible with our 14th amendment. Doesn’t it? So, Ro Khanna wants to override the US Constitution for the Blacks, Latinos, and hurt the Asian communities? Let me explain the truth below.
The results of the current system have been amazingly fair. Here are the enrollment rates, by race, the year before UC was ordered to stop considering race, and today: African Americans (3.7 percent then, 5% percent now); Latino Americans (13.4 percent then, 36% now); Asian Americans (36.1 percent then, 35% now), Caucasian Americans (38.4 percent then, 21% now). Admissions for both the Latinos and the Blacks are very close to the racial mix of California today. So, why put Prop 16 for the November ballot?
Asian Americans stand to lose the most if a race-based quota system is instituted. Asians may be dropped to 14% of the total admissions to the UC System, instead of 35% now. How is that fair? And Ro Khanna claims in his statements above that the AAPI community has suffered in the past, and will benefit after the Prop 16 passes. Really?
In other words, the rising percentage of Latino Americans graduating from California’s high schools has been matched by the rising percentage in their admission to UC, and the drop in Caucasian Americans’ percentage of California’s high schools has registered in their drop-in UC enrollments. The other races stayed about the same. These numbers do not call out for racist Affirmative action Programs endorsed by Ro Khanna.
In public jobs, blacks are already at about 20%. It is 30% higher than their population proportion. ACA 5 actually might actually hurt them.
Outreach programs to include small businesses, disadvantaged businesses, first-time businesses, minority-owned businesses, is totally fine under Prop 209, as long as all are approached equally, not just targeted to one category. That is why Prop 209 is fair and must stay, and Prop 16 must be defeated.
Congressman Ro Khanna is either ignorant, or misrepresenting the facts when he says that the AAPI community has suffered in getting fair enrollment in the UC system, in getting good-paying public jobs, or were hamstrung informing businesses. His motivation to mislead you is unclear.
Truth is that children of hardworking AAPI and other communities will suffer, as they will be stripped of fair competition to enter the UC System for higher education. They will either have to go out of state or private universities that will cost 2-3 times more. The quality and standard of the UC system will decline.
We cannot trust Ro Khanna, who completely misrepresents the facts and lies to get your votes. Please vote them out this November! We need honest and responsible representatives. We deserve better
Please oppose and STOP Prop16 (ACA 5). Let us together help children of all races, color, and ethnicity learn better, and prepare them to compete vigorously at national and international levels. That would be a real gift to our society, not a debilitating quota system!
