J Mack who has performed with some big names including Ampichino, Dubb 20, and Shoddy Boi has become a a big name in recent years. The artist who has been doing music since he was five years old wants his new track to send a clear message to those who are heading towards a dark path.
After listening to the track a number of times, it is no wonder why so many fans have called this new track the artist best work to date. So, I decided to sit down with J Mack and learn more about the new song and their musical career.
First of all, please introduce yourself.
My name is J Mack aka J Mack Tha Top Hat aka Mr No Reggie. I was born in Arizona but I was raised in Kansas City, Missouri. Natural Born Hustler. Street Poet. Businessman.
You are an up-and-coming rap artist, when did you first get interested in music?
I’ve been doing music since I was 5 years old. My step dad and my big cuz did music and I always said I was gonna be a rapper.
Why did you decide to get into rap instead of pop music or other styles of music?
I chose to get into rap instead of pop music and other genres of music because that’s what I grew up around. Although, I have an appreciation for all types of music as long as it’s dope.
You have got people excited by your style; how would you class your style of rap?
My style of rap is best described as Mobb Music. I rap about family, hustlin’, women and trials and tribulations that black people go through on a daily basis just trying to survive and overcome our circumstances.
You have a new track coming out All My Love (Radio Version) featuring AintDat3zy & Yanni K, what can fans expect from the new music?
The fans can expect me to keep it one hunnit and give it to em uncut. Catchy punchlines, authentic delivery and nothing but real sh_t.
What is the new song about?
This song is about a street guy (myself) who is chasing money while trying to maintain a healthy relationship with my significant other. And me letting her know that no matter what, no matter where and why, I will always have her back and be there for her.
What inspired you to write the new song?
I had just got out of prison after 4 years and I was experiencing all the emotions and situations that come with being with someone before going to prison and not being able to be there physically as opposed to reentering society and having to balance getting my life back together while still being in a relationship. Which oftentimes is very hard to do. Plus I challenged myself to make a hit record. Like a Billboard hit. Because at the end of the day I believe that’s what it’s all about; gold, platinum and diamonds.
What do you hope fans will get from the new song, once they have listened to it, what affect are you hoping it will have on them?
I want my fans to have that “Man this is my song, turn that up!!” type of reaction whenever they hear it. And they know it word for word. I also want my fans to be able to play this song if they’re going through a similar situation and feel inspired and hopeful because what I’m speaking in this song is facts.
Can we talk about why you went to prison and do you regret the reasons why you ended up there?
Let’s just say that I was moving too fast, doing too much and doing a lot of things the wrong way. And even though prison is not a place for anyone, it taught me a lot. It made me look at life differently. You almost have no choice but to have time to examine and re-access yourself. Either you’re going to do better or badder.
What would you say was the hardest part of going to prison, was it being stuck inside one place and not having the freedom you had before going to prison, or was it not being able to be close to a loved one?
The hardest part is being away from family and just the time itself. Time almost stands still when you’re locked down. You think about all the things you wanted or want to do and you can’t. You miss all the little things that are taken for granted like being able to go to bed when you want or being able to hug your people and come and go as you please. Prison is not for the weak-hearted.
What would you say to young people who could be heading off the rails and could end up in prison?
Things that come fast don’t always last and things that come slow might not seem worth it immediately, but trust me, it will bring you more peace in the long run.
Talent competitions like American Idol overlook Hip-Hop, what is that?
I think that Hip Hop has been given a bad rap. From talks of drugs, murder and then to actually have these things really happening to Hip Hop artist in real life sends a bad look overall. So a lot of television programming tends to shy away from it.
If you could work with any artist in the world who would it be and why?
I have done music wit’ some big underground artists like Ampichino, Dubb 20, Shoddy Boi and more. One of the artist that I would like to work with is Berner. I really dig his whole lifestyle. From rapping to the cannabis culture. I consider him the designer weed pioneer.
You have gained fans in all corners of the world, so my question to you is, when can your fans expect to see you tour?
I plan on doing some touring this summer, with the pandemic hopefully coming to an end.
A lot of your fans are based in the UK, so with a growing fan base there do you have plans to tour the UK?
I definitely would like to come to the UK and other surrounding countries. I think that it would truly be a breath of fresh air to perform overseas. Like a whole new and different type of vibe and experience.
A lot of young people have dreams of becoming an artist but receive little support from their teachers or family, what would you say to a young people who wants to follow their music dreams?
Don’t ever give up. Something that is really worth having and maintaining will not come easy because if it did, everybody would have it. Work hard. Stay consistent. Study and master your craft.
So, what can we expect from you in the near future?
My new album dropping this year “Free The Real, Leave The Rest”. A few movies and lots of videos. More merchandise, of course.
