Bestselling author Clare Wimmer’s guiding principle: “Be honest with yourself.”

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who traveled many different paths to create their best lives

For Munich-based business coach Clare Wimmer, creating a lifestyle that brings satisfaction and happiness involves answering the question “What do I want to do?” with complete honesty. As an Ivy League graduate who excelled in her banking job, Clare was fulfilling her parents’ highest aspirations for her. But they weren’t her aspirations.

“Lo and behold, you’re 10 years into a career, the money is really nice, and the lifestyle is really nice,” she remembers. “Stepping away from that was hard. But the problem was, when I hit 30, I really had no idea what I wanted. I knew I could make money but that wasn’t my goal in life. So what was my goal in life?” To figure it out, Clare began a process of reflecting on the parts of her finance job that she did enjoy—sales, helping people, training people—and how they could dovetail with what she saw as her greatest natural skill—communication.

It added up to business coaching. “I’ve been helping entrepreneurs with pitching—especially startups that need to come up with financials to go out for funding.” She also coaches jobseekers on creating effective resumes and digital footprints, and executives on successfully stepping into their roles. “At the end of the day, you work with me to grow in some way,” she explains. “I’m not sure how we’re going to grow together, but my goal now is just to help my clients as much as possible.”

Sometimes she uses her own experience to guide her clients, especially those who are making choices based on what they, or others, believe they “should” do. This could be the pre-med student who believes she “should” be a doctor but is miserable, or the career executive who has been told she “should” have a family but prefers to create a life based around herself and her career. “At a certain point thinking you ‘should’ do something becomes a burden. I just think you need to be honest with yourself.”

Read more about how Clare Wimmer went from a jet-setting finance career in San Francisco to creating a work and family lifestyle that meets her personal definition of success in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. This book is a master class of entrepreneurial advice and personal development guidance for any woman in search of role models who show that, yes, you can live the life of your dreams.

“I’m a resource for any problem you’ve ever had,” says bestselling author Cathy Trinh

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who travelled many different paths to create their best lives

From the outside, Cathy Trinh seemed to have it all—she was a successful young woman with a husband, child, big house, nice cars. But in fact, she was constantly trying to manage her life around her husband’s bipolar disorder and addictions, witnessing him being involuntarily committed to hospitals over and over again, serving jail terms. “I stayed in this relationship, thinking that it would get better. I hid so many secrets,” Cathy says now. “Well, as I learned my recovery journey, you become as sick as your secrets. I started getting very spiritually sick. I started getting physically sick and emotionally sick.” Another concept she learned in her self-reflection was “self-abandonment.” She became a codependent, ignoring her own needs in order to try to save her husband. “If he’s OK,” she thought, I’m going to be OK.”

Fortunately, trying to untangle her husband’s story, how he had become the man he was, prompted Cathy to probe her own past. “I started unpacking my own story, and I realized there was so much more than I thought. I became really obsessed with my story.” That story began when she was barely two years old, being smuggled with her teenage parents out of Vietnam by way of a small boat along with 41 other people who, “By God’s grace,” were pulled from a stormy sea where they surely would have perished. “We went to sea-based on faith alone,” she says. After a year in a refugee camp in Indonesia, the family resettled with Cathy’s grandmother in Orange County, California.

Life threw the next obstacle in high school when a sports injury put her in a cast for three months. She gained weight and a doctor prescribed the now-banned drug Fen-phen. Cathy didn’t know it, but her dependence on that drug as a teenager set her up for a pattern of drug addiction, including being addicted to meth as a college student. In her early 20s, still using, she was nevertheless successful as a recruiter because of her natural ability to talk to strangers and make people feel comfortable.

Finally, after getting clean, she turned that skill into a coaching business in which she serves as a mentor to other struggling women. “I have a lot of solutions. I feel like I am a resource center for any problem that you’ve ever had,” she laughs. “One of the biggest things I learned is that when you take chemical dependency away from your life, what you’re left with is emotional dependency. We’re left with feelings and a lot of people don’t know what to do with those feelings. Often, they turn to some kind of toxic behavior.” To help women support each other, she started a Facebook group, Soul Care Society, that quickly grew to nearly 2,000 members. “It’s a place where we can all be role models for each other, especially during this time of the Covid-19 pandemic. We model cross-cultural engagement, self-growth, character building, and leadership and development.” If that’s not enough, Cathy Trinh is also a cancer survivor who went through her illness as a single mom.

She shares that part of her story, and more, in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. Bestselling author Annie Hardock: “Once you know your goal, every decision is easy.”

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who travelled many different paths to create their best lives

Back when she was a new mom, Annie Hardock knew she didn’t want a traditional 9-to-5 office job. She wanted a job where she could control her time and stay home with her son. It was the early days of the internet, and Annie’s first days in a new town, but she launched a business networking group and an online business in local internet advertising. The networking group is still going strong (23 years later!) and the advertising business took off. Then, when her son was in high school, she started a new venture, teaching kids “mental math,” giving them a solid math foundation for school.

“I started a home-based business after my son was born because that’s the type of life that I wanted to create then,” Annie says. “I didn’t want to be working for someone else. It’s my product, my service. When we know the type of life, the quality of life that we want to live, that’s what we work toward.” Having a clear vision is step one. “Once you know your end goal, your vision or the type of life you want, then every small decision that you make becomes very easy,” she explains. “Because then you’re saying, well, if I choose A instead of B, will it get me closer to what I want or get me away from what I want? Many people struggle with what are actually really small decisions, but they become very big decisions for them because they don’t know where they’re going.”

This strategy worked for Annie again when the pandemic hit. With her son now grown and living on his own, she had been considering shifting her business from delivering math programs in a physical location to delivering them online. In fact, she’d already been researching virtual education platforms and had selected one just before her province in Canada went on lockdown. Her new vision for her lifestyle is one of the frequent travels (pandemic permitting, of course), so once she shifted that goal, her day-to-day decisions became clear. “I actually love being able to connect with children and help them to advance in education. So now I have this opportunity to serve even more students,” she says. “I can deliver this program online and I can teach students anywhere. And that’s what made me excited throughout the pandemic because my vision just got bigger and bigger.”

She has one other piece of advice to share with other entrepreneurs: When confronted with naysayers, consider carefully whether or not they are the people you are trying to reach in the first place. “You might be talking to the wrong audience,” Annie says. “It’s very important for entrepreneurs to have confidence in themselves. If you don’t have a strong belief in what you’re going to do, you will be swayed by others. Lots of times we don’t really see ourselves in terms of the value that we have.”

Read more about how Annie’s childhood—as one of 9 kids growing up in Hong Kong—influenced her drive to become financially independent in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. This book is a master class of entrepreneurial advice and personal development guidance for any woman in search of role models who show that, yes, you can live the life of your dreams.

Annie’s educational program is online at easymathforkids.com. “We help parents cope with the challenge of keeping their kids engaged, especially online and especially for young children,” she says. Her three-step guide for transforming kids into eager learners is free for download at easymathwithkids.com/guide

Bestselling author Anita Chan knows the beauty industry is about more than vanity

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who traveled many different paths to create their best lives

Entrepreneur Anita Chan has known she would work in the beauty industry since her summer job at Bare Escentuals when she was only 14 years old. And if she had any doubts, a subsequent job at Sephora quelled them. That’s where she saw the shift in how the industry presents makeup to its customers. The goal became less about “covering up” one’s perceived flaws and more about enhancing one’s attributes. As a teenager with acne, this message appealed to her. Then one day a young girl came in with the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Her wish was simply to get her makeup done. “I will never forget this,” Anita says. “This girl really became my purpose and my drive for going into the industry, because every girl—and every guy, now—we all have beauty in us and sometimes we just don’t know how to let it shine.”

Now the owner of the successful Anita B Spa in San Francisco, she has clients that have been with her for years, even decades. “I feel like the beauty industry is often misunderstood as just vanity,” she says. “Going to the spa, getting facials, putting on makeup correctly, it goes beyond beauty. It is much more internal. In my industry now, we have so much talk about wellness and self-care, and that includes mental health. We’re going to see more and more of that with the current climate, the way that things are right now. Beauty goes beyond just vanity.”

Anita’s mom did not see the beauty industry the same way at first. “Being raised by a tiger mom, an immigrant, and an entrepreneur herself, being in the beauty industry was not OK,” she says. “It was not a career. It wasn’t even a job!” To please her mom, Anita pursued a traditional undergraduate degree at San Francisco State University. But to keep on her path, she created her own major. She combined psychology, marketing, and speech communications into a major she called Fundamentals of Self-Image. Having to demonstrate the validity of her major to the university and succeeding in that endeavor boosted the normally shy Anita’s confidence and became one of the accomplishments that helped move her forward toward her eventual entrepreneurship.

Read more of her journey, including her stint as a flight attendant, in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. Bestselling author Amy Lin on how to quiet your fear and tap into your intuition

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who travelled many different paths to create their best lives

When Amy called her mom after a stressful and uninspiring day working in the banking industry, her mom told her, “Most people don’t like their jobs. Suck it up.” She took that advice to heart for the next seven years, changing banks, thinking things would get better. They never did. After a long-term relationship ended, Amy began a journey of personal development, and that ended up helping not only with the loss of her relationship but also her dissatisfaction with her career and her life.

“I loved my transformation, the woman that I was becoming, and I was sharing it with my friends and family and seeing them transform. And I made a decision that I wanted to help as many people as possible to step into their greatness.”

One of the things she realized was that she’d always known she should listen to her heart. But she was fearful, she questioned her self-worth, she doubted her intuition. “It was definitely a process to get where I am today,” she says. “Deep down inside, your soul or your heart knows what you want the most. But because of other people’s opinions, because our fear, because of our inner chatter, sometimes we don’t listen to our intuition. But if we will just follow our intuition, we’ll always end up at the perfect place for us.”

Amy followed her intuition even though it meant she had to step out of her comfort zone, get through “impostor syndrome,” and go against what her parents saw as the right path for her. With her coaching business, The Opulent Academy, she is helping other women discover their potential. “Ladies, if you’re not doing something that you are passionate about, change it,” she says. “Change it! It’s your life.”

Read more about Amy’s journey and what motivates her every day in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. Unique Eternity Band Designs On The Rise

0

While a classic round brilliant cut or square cut eternity band is always a good choice, sometimes one needs to spice up their jewelry pieces. Eternity bands can be designed in endless ways, making uniqueness achievable.

There are several reasons why one may be in the market for an eternity band. Whether looking for an eternity band as an engagement ring, wedding ring, anniversary gift, birthday gift, or to celebrate the birth of a child, there are endless ways to customize eternity bands to every celebration.

Choosing the perfect eternity band is not only about getting a nice ring setting and making sure the diamonds are of good quality, the design of an eternity band is what makes all the difference in how it complements the hand. Whether the ring is to be worn alone or stacked with other rings, one must explore all options on such a big purchase.

Being informed about the different styled eternity rings can broaden one’s options and confirm whether to go classic or unique when choosing an eternity band. Here we have provided you with a list of unique eternity band styles that have become popular in recent years.

Round Diamond Halo Eternity Band

The round diamond halo eternity band is a true work of art. This eternity band features a single row of round brilliant cut diamonds. Around each individual round, a brilliant-cut diamond is a halo of small pave-cut diamonds. These smaller pave diamonds create a wave illusion around the band of the ring that causes the ring to sparkle infinitely. This is the perfect ring for anyone who loves to shine.

Multi-Row Pave Diamond Eternity Band

For those who are blessed with long and thin fingers, a multi-row eternity band does wonders. Unlike other eternity bands, the multi-row eternity band is several rings in one. In multi-row eternity bands, there could be 2, 4, or even 6 rows of thin pave diamond eternity bands stacked on one another. Many designers like Cartier, Tiffany & Co., and even David Yurman have created their own rendition of the multi-row diamond eternity band.

Baguette Eternity Band

While the baguette eternity ring has been around far too long to call unique, in recent years there’s been a new trend with this shape of diamond. Jewelers today have been mixing classic diamond shape with contemporary design by setting baguette diamonds in a zigzag pattern around the eternity band. This zigzag pattern creates a unique look that can be worn dressed up or dressed down. The crookedness in this eternity band almost makes it appear informal so this ring will never look out of place when paired with jeans. Nevertheless, this diamond eternity band adds elegance when paired with wedding rings or worn alone.

Tear Drop Eternity Band

The tear-drop diamond, or also known as the pear-shaped diamond, is one of the rarest cuts found in eternity bands. This won’t be for much longer since the design of this ring has been catching the attention of many fashion bloggers recently. The alternating inverted diamonds on a pear-shaped eternity band create a crown-like design that makes the owner’s finger look like royalty.

Yellow Diamond Eternity Band

For those who enjoy a pop of color in their jewelry collection, yellow diamonds are an excellent way of achieving this. When paired with yellow gold, the shine of yellow diamonds increase so that it looks like the sun is shining through the ring. Yellow diamonds are beautiful when paired with other colored stones as well. This design is a better route for those who don’t mind straying from the traditional.

Open Diamond Eternity Band

Although a gap in the middle of an eternity ring may seem ironic for what it symbolizes, it sure looks stunning! In an open diamond eternity band, there is a gap in the eternity band setting that leaves an opening that exposes the finger. This cuff-like design makes this eternity band perfect to pair with engagement rings and other single center-stoned rings. Unlike other eternity bands, the open diamond eternity ring doesn’t require the removal or addition of any stones to be sized. This gap makes this ring the most easily sized eternity ring since all one must do is squeeze or stretch to size.

Criss-Cross or Curved Pave Eternity Bands

Lastly, we have the criss-cross eternity ring and the curved eternity ring. Like the open diamond eternity band, these designs pair excellently with engagement rings and other single center-stone rings. The criss-cross pave eternity band features two-eternity bands soldered to create an “X” shape in the center of the ring on both sides. The curved pave eternity band simply consists of a pave eternity ring with a curved “V” shape in the center of the face of the ring. These center curves in these two rings allow for them to stack gracefully with other rings that carry a heavy center stone.

New President Appointed to Helm NativeCoin

0

USA, February 23, 2021 NativeCoin (N8V) is proud to announce the naming of Native American Randy Williams as its new President.

A member of the Tlingit Tribe in Alaska and the Otoe-Missouria Tribe in Oklahoma, and a graduate of Dartmouth College, Williams brings to the table a lifetime of experience working with Tribes and Tribal councils, as well as managing numerous casinos on Tribal lands and owning many private businesses.

“President Williams will help navigate and guide us in Indian Country like never before,” said. N8V CEO Jeff Johnson. “My directive has always been to find the right person for the right job, and with his experience and his background, there is nobody better that we could have found to help lead the charge for NativeCoin.”

NativeCoin is creating a new cryptocurrency that will be used in Tribal businesses, casinos, and online gaming platforms. It would be the first sovereign Native American currency.

“It’s important to be able to communicate at all of the different levels of the many layers of Indian Country,” Williams said of his role in NativeCoin. “And that is something I have always been very comfortable with. Whether it is with Tribal councils, local, state and national governments, or the business community, being able to communicate to all is an important quality for getting the cryptocurrency message out there.”

Williams said a casino is only a jump-off-point for the uses and benefits of introducing and using cryptocurrency in Tribal local markets.

“I see customers using NativeCoin when they purchase gas, cigarettes, products from the C-Store, in hotels, at concerts and Tribal gift shops,” he said. “It’s a process, and it’s going to take time. I think that cryptocurrency is here to stay. It’s going to be the currency that all Tribes can use. It creates a niche in the currency market. It gives them the currency they can identify with and opens all their businesses to the younger generations on the local level, and the world on a global level.”

Groundbreaking Teacup LifeStory Book service launched for people living with memory problems

0

A unique blend of reminiscence therapy and LifeStory biography work developed after personal experiences of supporting a grandmother living with memory problems like dementia

Teacup Dementia Therapy Ltd today announced the launch of the Teacup LifeStory Book: a unique, lasting record of a person living with memory problems describing their life so far, expertly curated by healthcare professionals using evidence-based therapy.

The Teacup LifeStory Book specifically supports people with memory problems including early to mid stage dementia and was created by healthcare professionals with decades of specialist experience.

The service utilises a powerful therapeutic process which combines formal LifeStory work and the principles of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy in order to create a unique, high-quality, hard-back book that can be enjoyed today with family and friends, and into the future with generations to come.

Teacup was inspired by the life of Barbara Sturgess, grandmother of co-founders Kate Bartlett and Jack Oliver, and client of occupational therapist Heather Manktelow; the third in the trio of business founders.

At the end of her life Barbara lived with dementia and a very large collection of miniature teacups – hence the name of the business. Kate, Jack and Heather wanted to continue to provide the same kind of person-centred, specialist care utilising LifeStory work that Barbara had experienced.

“Teacup was inspired by the life of our grandmother Barbara,” says Kate Bartlett, who co-founded the business with brother Jack Oliver and Barbara’s occupational therapist Heather Manktelow. “At the end of her life Barbara lived with dementia and a very large collection of miniature teacups – hence our name! We are inspired to continue to provide the person-centred and specialist care our wonderful grandmother was worthy of.”

A Teacup LifeStory Book creates a lasting record of an individual and their life so far, expertly curated by one of the team of healthcare professionals using evidence-based therapy.

The therapy combines formal LifeStory work and principles of Cognitive Stimulation Therapy. Outputs of the sessions – which are delivered using an online platform, such as Zoom – provide the narrative content for Teacup LifeStory Books.

Co-founder Heather Manktelow explains: “Cognitive Stimulation Therapy is an approach where brain cells are exercised in an enjoyable and relaxed environment. Our sessions draw upon ‘reminiscence’ therapy and follow a tried-and-tested approach to gathering an individual’s unique story.”

As a part of the therapeutic process customers are provided with activities to complete at home.

“Chatting through your life helps to jog memory cells, keep up communication skills, and often provides some laughter recalling amusing anecdotes,” adds Heather.

Teacup LifeStory Books including the online therapy sessions are now available from £595. For more information on Teacup LifeStory Books, visit teacupdementiatherapy.com

What customers have said about Teacup LifeStory Books:

What To Ask Before Buying an Eternity Ring

0

A diamond eternity ring is a special sparkly reminder of the neverending love shared between two life partners. Eternity rings can be also referred to as eternity bands, infinity rings, anniversary rings, celebration rings, wedding rings, and even diamond bands.

Eternity rings date back over 4000 years ago to the Ancient Egyptians. The first eternity bands depicted a snake biting its own tail. While these rings were not often used as wedding or anniversary rings, they still symbolized an eternity of love and life.

Traditionally, the eternity band is shared between spouses for one of three reasons. Eternity bands can be used as wedding rings with diamonds all around as a representation of wedding vows. Milestone anniversaries such as the first anniversary, fifth anniversary, tenth anniversary, and 20th anniversary are often celebrated with eternity rings as well. Lastly, diamond eternity bands are a beautiful way to mark the welcoming of a new child since the circle of diamonds gracefully symbolizes the circle of life.

Regardless of the celebration, purchasing a diamond eternity ring is just as if not more complicated than buying an engagement ring. Since eternity rings carry more diamonds than engagement rings, the diamonds on eternity rings are often not GIA certified. This means that one wants to make sure the jeweler they are shopping from not only carries quality diamonds but are reputable dealers.

Here we have provided you with some questions to answer prior to purchasing your perfect eternity ring.

How Much Is An Eternity Ring?

The budget placed by a couple for a diamond eternity band is completely up to them. It’s nice to set a price range to help narrow down your options. It is normal for the budget to get adjusted up or down once deciding on diamond size, diamond quality, and setting metal for the eternity band. The average couple usually spends around 50% to 100% of the cost of the engagement ring on an eternity ring.

Difference Between Full, Half, and ¾ Eternity Rings

Although the meaning behind eternity bands falls within the unbroken circle of diamonds, some couples chose a different design for the piece. Half eternity rings and three-quarters eternity rings only contain diamonds throughout half or three-quarters of the band.

While it may seem ironic for an eternity ring to have a gap, there are many benefits to this gap. Unlike full eternity bands, half and ¾ eternity bands are easy to resize. If one were to try and resize a full eternity band, they would have to add or remove a diamond leaving an obvious interruption in the ring’s symmetry.

Also, half eternity bands and ¾ eternity bands contain fewer diamonds. This allows buyers to save money on diamonds and invest in larger higher quality diamonds. On the downside, partial eternity rings can be a pain for those whose rings constantly spin on their fingers.

One can become irritated to see that their eternity ring is constantly off-center during daily activities. This is a compromise one must oversee if they wish to go with a partial eternity ring.

Where to wear?

Eternity bands have been seen worn on every finger! However, when stacked with other wedding rings, the order typically follows the wedding band at the base, engagement ring in the middle, and eternity band on top.

Deciding which finger you will wear your eternity band will also help determine the appropriate setting for the ring. Picking an eternity band setting that will complement the look and stack well against the other rings is very important. On the other hand, if one wishes to wear the ring on a completely different hand they might prefer deciding on a heftier setting.

What style?

Eternity rings can be made to look a million different ways. Pave diamond eternity rings are very popular amongst eternity bands. This style contains several rows of tiny diamonds set into the ring by metal prongs that grab around the sides of the stone.

Another style called the “split prong” eternity ring consists of four separate prongs that branch from the base of the ring and wrap around each diamond. This setting allows for more light to shine through the diamond compared to the pave set eternity band.

The “shared prong” eternity rings (also referred to as “U-shape”) have prongs that support two diamonds at a time. This style has a scoop on the side that allowed for a lot of light to enter each diamond through the sides.

For those who know they cannot own an eternity ring without having the constant paranoia of losing a diamond, the channel setting is the one. Each diamond in a channel set eternity band is held in between bars of metal that surround the ring finger. This setting often limits the amount of light going through the diamond, causing diamonds to sometimes appear darker than their actual grade.
