On Feb. 22, Changes to The Paycheck Protection Were Announced. Here’s a Quick Summary For Small Business Owner

0

USA, February 24, 2021 On Monday, Feb. 22, the Biden Administration announced several changes to the popular Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) – some of which will go into effect as early as Feb. 24. According to a White House press release, these changes are intended to further target “the smallest businesses and those that have been left behind in previous relief efforts.”1

If you’re a small business owner in need of financial assistance, you may find these changes helpful in securing a PPP loan.
What’s Changing?

While Biden has indicated that the trillion-dollar American Rescue Plan is still on its way, these new changes are meant to make help more accessible to those who’ve had trouble obtaining financial assistance in the past.

Change #1: Two-Week Exclusive Application Period

Beginning Feb. 24, the PPP will only accept applications from businesses with 20 or fewer employees. According to the White House, approximately 98 percent of small businesses in America have fewer than 20 employees, yet these small businesses have found it difficult to compete with larger companies for PPP loan access.1

There will be a 14-day exclusive application period, which is designed to help lenders focus solely on serving these small businesses.
Change #2: Adjustments to the Loan Calculation Formula

The Biden administration has announced that adjustments will be made to the current loan calculation formula. This will be done in an effort to address challenges faced by small businesses without employees. These include sole proprietors, independent contractors and self-employed individuals.

In past instances, these business owners have received as little as $1 in PPP assistance or been excluded from receiving funding altogether.1 In conjunction with an adjustment to the loan calculation formula, $1 billion will be set aside for businesses without employees that are located in low- and moderate-income areas.1

Change #3: Reduce Non-Fraud Felony Restrictions
A business is considered ineligible for a PPP loan if it is 20 percent or more owned by someone who was either:1
1. Arrested or convicted on felony charges for financial assistance fraud within the last five years or
2. Arrested or convicted for any other felony within the last 12 months or
3. Currently delinquent or defaulted within the last seven years on federal student loans.

With bipartisan support, the administration is rolling out the PPP Second Chance Act, which will eliminate the second restriction business owners currently face. Businesses will no longer be ineligible if a 20 percent or greater owner was convicted of a non-financial assistance related felony in the last 12 months – unless they are incarcerated at the time the PPP loan application is filed.

In addition, the SBA will remove the restriction on business owners with delinquent student loan debt. The removal of these restrictions will broaden eligibility for business owners who previously were unable to utilize PPP loan assistance.

Change #4: Establish Access for Non-Citizen U.S. Residents
When the PPP was established, it was stated that all legal U.S. residents were eligible to access the program (granted they met the other eligibility requirements).

However, there was inconsistency and confusion amongst non-citizen residents, including ITIN holders who held Green Cards or lived and worked in America on a visa. According to the White House, the SBA is expected to release clear and consistent information regarding the application process for ITIN holders who are eligible for PPP loans and may have been previously denied access.

Small business owners have been impacted greatly by the ongoing pandemic. While vaccination rollouts are helping to slow the spread of COVID-19, businesses across the country are continuing to grapple with capacity limitations, shutdown orders and other economic hurdles. If you’re a small business owner struggling to make ends meet, now may be an opportune time to apply for a PPP loan. If you have any questions regarding this process or your eligibility, your financial advisor may be able to help.

Will You Be Subject to a Penalty for Not Filing Your 2020 Estimated Taxes?

0

This has been a difficult year for everyone, and the last thing anyone wants to think about is owing an unexpected tax penalty. Unfortunately, self-employed individuals and small-business owners who are required to pay estimated taxes may find themselves in that position if they did not pay their estimated tax for 2020.

The IRS requires taxpayers to pay their taxes for the current year in that year. For taxpayers whose income is reported on Form W-2, an amount is withheld each pay period that is supposed to cover your taxes for the year. If too much is withheld, you get a refund. If too little is withheld, you owe the government taxes. The amount withheld each pay period can be adjusted by filing a new W-4 with your employer.

Taxpayers whose income is reported on Form 1099 must follow a different route for paying their taxes. These taxpayers must file their estimated taxes on a quarterly basis: April 15, June 15, Sept. 15 and Jan. 15. If any of those dates fall on a weekend or a federal holiday, taxes are due on the first business day after the due date.

With some exceptions, failure to have enough taxes withheld results in a tax penalty. The penalty is determined as follows: The IRS calculates how much tax you should have paid each quarter. The IRS applies a percentage (the penalty rate) to figure your penalty amount for each quarter. The penalty amount for each quarter is totaled to come up with the underpayment penalty you owe. This can amount to a hefty penalty.

There are three ways to avoid the estimated tax penalty:

  1. Pay at least 90% of the current year’s tax penalty.
  2. Pay at least 100% of the prior year’s tax liability or 110% if your adjusted gross income for 2019 exceeded $150,000.
  3. Pay at least 90% of the current year’s “annualized income.” Taxpayers who do not receive income evenly over the course of the year, such as snowplow drivers, may use this method. To use this method, the taxpayer must complete Form 2210, Schedule AI.

The penalty may be waived if:

  • The failure to make estimated payments was caused by a casualty, disaster or other unusual circumstance, and it would be inequitable to impose the penalty, or
  • You retired (after reaching age 62) or became disabled during the tax year for which estimated payments were required to be made or in the preceding tax year, and the underpayment was due to reasonable cause and not willful neglect.

In addition, no penalty is assessed if (1) the total tax shown on your return minus the amount you paid through withholding is less than $1,000 or (2) you had no tax liability in 2019.

Employee Retention Tax Credit Gets a Boost

0

The second relief bill, passed at the end of 2020, contains updates to the employee retention credit, a refundable payroll tax credit. Each option has its own rules and regulations for first- and second-round funding. The act changes some requirements for the ERC — retroactively and prospectively — giving businesses more options to claim it.

Eligibility Updates

Not every business qualifies for this credit. To be eligible, it must meet either of these criteria:

  • The business was fully or partially suspended due to orders from the federal or state government limiting commerce, travel or group meetings due to COVID-19.
  • The business experienced a 50% year-over-year decline in gross receipts during any quarter of 2020 or a 20% decline in the first two quarters of 2021 compared with the same period in 2019.

In addition:

  • Certain governmental employers (e.g., state colleges, universities, hospitals) are now eligible for this credit.
  • Certain businesses that were started in response to the pandemic may be able to claim the credit.

Small or Large Business?

If your business is eligible, the next step is determining whether you qualify as a small or a large business. The definitions of business size changed under the act. For 2020, businesses with 100 or fewer employees were considered small businesses, but the act changed that. For 2021, businesses with up to 500 employees are classified as small businesses.

Dollar Limits

For eligible small businesses, wages paid in 2020 are eligible for a 50% credit. That changes to 70% in 2021. For eligible large businesses, only wages paid to employees who were furloughed or not working qualify for the credit. Otherwise, the limits are the same: 50% for wages paid in 2020 and 70% for wages paid in 2021.

Wages paid to some employees who work at a level below their normal qualifications may also qualify.

The maximum credit is $5,000 for tax year 2020 and $7,000 per quarter for each of the first two quarters of 2021.

Other Major Changes to the ERC

  • Businesses can take the ERC even if they borrowed PPP funds. This change is retroactive for wages paid after March 12, 2020. There is a caveat: Businesses may not take a double deduction. That is, they may not use the same wages for the ERC as they do for PPP loan forgiveness.
  • The ERC was extended through June 30, 2021.
  • Businesses may use the immediately preceding quarter to determine eligibility.

This is just a summary of some complex provisions that may affect how a business works with other relief programs. To make sure you’re making the best use of any programs for your business, be sure to get professional advice. By Flowers Rieger CPA, you Tucson Tax Preparation experts.

Bestselling author Vibha Sharma: “What you focus on, you create.”

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who traveled many different paths to create their best lives

Spiritual and Mindful leadership coach Vibha Sharma first turned to meditation after she moved to the U.S. from India with her husband and missed her family back in India. They were a deeply connected family, and she worried about her aging parents’ health. “I started reading about spirituality and how to make myself stronger from inside,” she remembers. “I read about the truth that our life is eternal, that we don’t go anywhere. I started meditating regularly and this practice of meditating totally changed me from inside.” Now, Vibha shares the revelation of meditation with her clients.

“I always tell my clients you can meditate for several reasons. The basic reason is simply to deal with your daily stress. The second is for manifesting. You can manifest the thing you focus on, because you energize it. What you focus on, you create. The third is your spiritual growth, understanding your connection with the universe, with the creator, and ultimately enlightenment.” While some clients want to embark on this spiritual journey, many simply want to feel more at peace. Others find that a regular meditation practice helps them in difficult personal as well as professional relationships, for example with bosses or coworkers. “They bring me all the situations,” Vibha says. “I tell them that, deep down inside, you need to check with yourself and how you view and value yourself. Through many exercises and a couple of months of work, they are able to change their mindset. When you change from inside, everything changes on the outside for you.”

Vibha shares more of her insights in her best-selling book, Turn Within: Reconnect with Your Inner Peace and Wellbeing, which is available on Amazon and at www.vibhasharma.com. She also offers many options for group and individual Spiritual, Mindfulness coaching, training and consultations and guided online meditations at www.cosmicways.com. For those who believe they “can’t” meditate, Vibha offers a simple way of thinking about it: “Meditation is not about doing anything. It’s about undoing. How difficult is undoing? Spend some quiet time alone, just attending to your own presence and accessing and experiencing this life.”

Read more about Vibha and her journey to become a very successful Spiritual and Mindful Leadership Coach including how she overcame her guilt about not being with her father when he passed, in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. This book is a master class of entrepreneurial advice and personal development guidance for any woman in search of role models who show that, yes, you can live the life of your dreams.

How bestselling author Liza Millan lost a million dollars and started over

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs who traveled many different paths to create their best lives

USA, February 24, 2021 The good news for entrepreneur Liza Millan was that she’d found what she loved to do—plan events. She spent years gaining experience in Fortune 100 and 500 companies, the toughest event crowd out there. Then she took that love and that experience and launched her own event business, which quickly earned more than one million dollars in revenue. The bad news? She trusted a partner whom she ultimately split with and, without documents in order or agreements signed and sealed, he was able to wipe out all of her earnings and leave her at square one.

After suffering through a year-long depression, Millan began her journey of rebuilding. She engaged in personal development, brought a legal case against her former partner, reclaimed her power, and launched her new events business, Masterpiece. Not only is she back to planning events, she also provides virtual events as a service as a result of the “new normal” that society is experiencing. These events are not limited to webinar-like setups, but is a totally holistic experience that makes participants feel that they are in an actual event. Millan is also offering a 12-week course for other entrepreneurs looking to hold virtual summits to reach both new and existing audiences for their products or services.

Despite her enormous setback, Millan says the one thing she kept thinking was: “Always remember that you can do this. Don’t let anyone stop you from what it is you love to do.”

Read more about Millan’s journey in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. Bestselling author Samantha Mui rewrote her story to follow her passion for food

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs who travelled many different paths to create their best lives

USA, February 23, 2021 Food blogger and cookbook author Samantha Mui growing up was uncomfortable with her own Asian American identity. She was often overlooked by teachers and was seen as a troubled child by her peers, thus she also experienced being bullied. To escape from her reality, she would often daydream of hosting cooking shows. It wasn’t until many years later when she landed her in culinary school, she realized she’d been a creative and hands-on learner – she learned way more in the kitchen than she had ever learned from a textbook. “I realized. I just didn’t find my place in a traditional school setting.”’ Once I went to culinary school, I felt empowered and that gave me the courage to go back to community college to get a BA and then later get a master’s degree.”

Samantha earned those college degrees as a way of “collecting skills,” she says. “I was a communications major, then I became an international studies major, I was in debate. I was all these different things because I thought, ‘One day, I’m going to tell stories and I’m going to do it through food. And I don’t know how I’m going to do it.’ Essentially, I’ve been working 10 years trying to learn all these different skill sets to either market myself, to talk about food, to be in the food space, and leverage that.” Now she posts her food blog at her Instagram @SammyEats and on her website. She has received glowing reviews for her beautiful and personal cookbook/memoir, Melting Pot: Stories from a Chinese American Daydreamer.

She shares much more about her path—how she grew up “too fast,” why she believes women need to validate themselves rather than waiting to be validated by a partner, and how she learned to “go hard on the things you really care about”—in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. How bestselling author Denise Michelle learned to dream bigger

0

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs who traveled many different paths to create their best lives

USA, February 23, 2021 Sometimes the first leap into entrepreneurship is the beginning of a journey to a destination you don’t even know exists. That’s how it happened for Denise Michelle, who thought she was living her dream when she opened a yoga studio in L.A. “I had no business plan. I just started and I did what made sense to me,” Denise remembers. And what made sense was to do everything herself. “I was the head teacher, bookkeeper, marketer, accountant, doing all the day-to-day operations, and it was exhausting,” she says. “I actually started to resent it because my hobby was yoga, my job was yoga, and I didn’t have anything else. I wanted more and I didn’t feel like I could have more. I couldn’t see beyond, ‘Well, I’m in my dream, shouldn’t I be loving it?’”

That questioning led her away from the studio and into surfing, and when she suffered a serious injury, she found her way to new types of healing. She’d been certified as a massage therapist, but then she got certified in reiki and began to study EFT. “I went deeper into the healing arts, like sound healing, and then I started going into spirit—3D, 4D, 5D,” she says, “and meditation became a big access point for all of this.” The path from yoga to bodywork to healing work then led to coaching. “I had started coaching people on the table, helping them break through and have transformations,” Denise explains. “Everything just started coming together into transformational life coaching.”
But she still wasn’t finished evolving her practice. She now sees herself as “a coach’s coach,” working with healers, influencers, and people who have missions to help others. The tool she uses is Rapid Transformational Therapy, or RTT, something she’d never heard of in her yoga days or even her early days as a coach. “Originally I was taught how to deal with paradigms and you just kind of peel away the onion, layer by layer,” she says. “But these people don’t have time to be doing that! We need to bulldoze through.” RTT fits the bill because it goes straight to the root cause of things. “We get down to how this particular memory or experience created your belief. And we change that. We shift it, whatever it is—whether it’s food, anxiety, depression, infertility, or trauma.”

Denise herself knows about trauma from her years of failing to understand her borderline personality disorder or address her suicidal intentions. She shares her full story, including how she finally recognized her mental illness and went through treatment, in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. This book is a master class of entrepreneurial advice and personal development guidance for any woman in search of role models who show that, yes, you can live the life of your dreams.

Find more about Denise and her work at www.bridgethelove.com. On Instagram, she is @denisemichellexoxo and on Facebook, Denise Michelle Love. “Remember that we’re all in this together,” she says. “That is my belief. Together, we rise.”

XRP IS THE FUTURE BITCOIN, BUY AND HOLD XRP – TARGET 200% increment

0

USA, February 24, 2021 (February 23, 2021): The Ripple (XRP) is both a currency and a Platform. The Ripple platform is an open source protocol which is designed to allow low cost and fast transactions. The platform has its own currency (XRP) but allows everybody to use the platform. XRP acts as a token of currency on the network. It is focusing on building technology to help unleash new utility for XRP and transform global payments. It ensures instant settlement, lower exchange fees and more efficient use of working capital.

Ripple has emerged as a technology that can work both as a cryptocurrency and as a digital payment network for carrying out financial transactions all across the globe.

As you now probably know, the Ripple blockchain performs much better than Bitcoin. It performs faster and cheaper transactions, and more scalable transactions. Not only this, but the Ripple consensus mechanism is much better for the environment — it does not waste large amounts of energy.

HOW DOES XRP WORK?
With current settlement systems for transactions such as SWIFT and Paypal generally using U.S. dollars as a common currency for conversion, incurring money and time as a result, the aim of XRP is to act as a mediator that settles almost instantly, and with a fraction of the cost. It does this through RippleNet, a liquidity solution using XRP that has been developed to make these lengthy and expensive transactions a thing of the past. XRP acts as a token of currency on the network.

FUTURE OF XRP:
Ripple has incorporated itself in the state of Wyoming in 2021, a state that is widely regarded to have some of the most crypto-friendly laws in the country. Ripple has ensured that it has a home, regardless of the outcome of the ongoing trial with the SEC, according to attorney Jesse Hynes. In a recent Twitter thread, Hynes, a partner at Hynes Law Group, claimed that win or lose, Ripple and XRP will not cease to exist.

The attorney argued that in doing so, Ripple has ensured XRP’s continued survival, even if the SEC determines that XRP is a security.

Wyoming’s Special Purpose Depository Institutions (SPDIs) classifies digital securities as digital assets. These SPDIs are allowed to buy and sell digital assets, offer currency/digital asset exchange services, and lend digital assets. According to Hynes, Ripple’s On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) services would likely qualify as a “digital asset exchange service” and XRP would likely be considered a “digital security” itself.

If Ripple loses the lawsuit, being located in Wyoming will give it an advantage because it will be able to tie up with a Wyoming SPDI that has a charter and a Certificate of Authority to continue its operations.

However, industry proponents believe that potential good news from the ongoing pre-trial conference with the SEC will soon have a positive impact on XRP’s price.

XRP IS NOT MINED:
Also unlike Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies, XRP isn’t mined. Although there is also a finite supply of the currency, XRP is not created through the actions of miners. It is instead issued by its parent company Ripple. When the currency was launched in 2013, 100 billion coins were created. But to date, less than half of that are currently in circulation. Coins are released periodically by Ripple from escrow.

INVESTING IN XRP:
If you’re ready to play the long game, then XRP is a worthy investment. It is also still cheap (in between $0.43 to $0.57).

The price history of XRP since its launch in 2013 shows a price fluctuation. Until 2017 it managed to reach above $0.01, but in March and April of that year it was up to $0.05. A bull run to $0.25 by May. Its price peaked at $3.84 on January 2, 2018.

XRP’s price predictions in future vary between analysts. Some have said if XRP continues on its road to wider adoption, its price could be as high as $200 by 2030. Some predict that it would be around $5 by 2022. There are many factors involved in affecting XRP’s price in the future.

If the currency continues to gain traction, its mainstream adoption becomes more widespread, and confidence grows in the currency further, there’s no reason to think that it can’t be bullish once again. It can definitely be a worthy investment as it targets $1-$2 in near future, means 200% percent increase.

Even in a very short period of time, the value of the digital currency has been raised by thousands and become one of the most expensive currencies to purchase and invest. Just like that, Ripple is another digital currency which has been ranked the third most valuable digital currency after Bitcoin and Ethereum.

The current ranking is #7, with a live market cap of $18,062,065,373 USD. It has a circulating supply of 45,404,028,640 XRP coins and a max supply of 100,000,000,000 XRP coins.

XRP can make you rich, despite the major drop recently, several factors imply that it is a good investment and BUY AND HOLD XRP can be in your benefit. The prices will increase soon in future.

Bestselling author Vivian De Guzman says that when your soul wants to grow—let it!

New book reveals the joys and struggles of 18 Asian women entrepreneurs
who travelled many different paths to create their best lives

“All of us have money issues,” says Vivian De Guzman. “Every time we up-level and we decide we want to grow—because our soul wants to grow and expand all the time—we encounter money stories. Let’s say you want to go from $60,000 a year to $100,000, from $500,000 to $1 million. The conversation in your head is, ‘Do I deserve that? Am I worthy of that?’ Even if nobody else is telling you that!” Formerly a successful holistic physical therapist, Vivian now devotes her time to helping female business owners get to six or seven figures with ease, grace, and flow. And one of the most important steps on that road is getting past your money blocks—the stories you’ve grown up with or told yourself.

Vivian had to face her own limiting beliefs after she suffered a stroke and had to choose between continuing the life she was leading—mom of four who was devoting too much time to her medical practice rather than hiring help—or being there for her kids over the long term. “There were just too many dreams at sake. I knew I needed to change,” she says. She had to learn to give up control in order to grow her business and ultimately in order to pivot to helping people in a different way—helping them “practice their own genius” and charge for the value they give. “That’s the other part that we all have to overcome: learning how to ask for money.” Especially when others around us are not vibrating with our same energy—friends and family will put up resistance. But Vivian says these reactions are about them, not you. “They’re thinking, ‘What if you leave me?’ They’re just afraid for you to grow.” But when you’re ready to step into your purpose, everything else will flow from that, no matter what a family member says.

Vivian shares much of her wisdom in a book, Money Blocks: Eight Steps to Get to Six Figures in 90 Days or Less in Any Economy, available at Amazon. At her website, overwhelm911.com, you can schedule a call to clarify your fears and resistance around money. “Do you really want to solve the problem?” Vivian asks. “Because I know how to do it quickly.”

You can also read more about Vivian’s journey in the inspiring new book Asian Women Who Boss Up, by Tam Luc, the author, educator, and podcaster dedicated to helping women “boss up.” This collection of interviews with highly successful Asian women reveals how they have overcome obstacles and stereotypes, pushed past self-imposed limits, and defied expectations imposed on them by others, often their parents. This book is a master class of entrepreneurial advice and personal development guidance for any woman in search of role models who show that, yes, you can live the life of your dreams.
